In the same way that Universal Design for Learning (UDL) creates educational environments where all students can effectively learn and demonstrate their knowledge, Neurobehavioral (AKA brain-based) approaches to supporting individuals with presenting behaviors takes into consideration the unique way each individual's brain processes information and is able to tailor the intervention accordingly. We purport that brain-based/neurobehavioral interventions are equivalent to universal design when it comes to meeting the behavioral needs of individuals. #UDL #Brain #Behavior

Transitioning from Early Intervention to an IEP The mandates for Early Intervention and for Special Education (IEP) are disparate in several ways and the transition from one system to the next can cause challenges in the consistent receipt of appropriate and supportive services for children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. Please join us on November 14th, 2024 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm PST for an informative and inquisitive discussion and dialogue on the similarities and differences between these two systems and how to facilitate a smooth transition between them. #FBA #BIP #FASD On October?23rd, explore how schools can conduct effective and FASD-informed Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). Because 'behaviors' tend to be one of the most challenging and most misunderstood aspects of FASD, many families find themselves in the challenging situation of needing support for their child, but are offered strategies that are ineffective. This seminar will break down why traditional FBAs and BIPs can be ineffective for students with FASD and how to adapt them to ensure a brain-based lens is used when assessing and documenting student needs and intervention strategies. This seminar is for: - School professionals interested in improving their understanding and ability to effectively serve students with the most common developmental disability in the United States. - Families with children who were, or may have been, prenatally exposed to substances and are struggling with challenging behaviors. - Allied professionals who provide IEEs and want to improve their understanding of FASD and related neurodevelopmental disabilities and how to support these students' behavioral needs effectively. Every child deserves an environment that allows them to thrive. Yet not all environments - even those with the best of intentions - are structured in ways that nurture students' self-confidence. Facilitating confident young learners who are excited to explore new concepts and approach ideas from new angles is essential for children to become creative thinkers and problem-solvers. How then, do we create environments that nurture learning and foster self-esteem? ·??????We invite connection by cultivating relationships that are meaningful, that provide us with a sense of safety, and that welcome compassionate dialogue. ·??????We choose our words wisely, because what we say, and how we say it, matters. ·??????We seek understanding by listening to others, by offering grace to ourselves, and by perceiving failures as opportunities for growth. ·??????We facilitate spaces that encourage new ideas and exploration and that are accessible to all. ·??????We celebrate differences because each of us has strengths and the beauty within the unique aspects of each individual is what contributes to a vibrant society. ·??????We strive to continue to learn and grow throughout our lives and embrace the insight that comes with each new relationship we experience. ·???????We create openings for contribution to community through being our authentic selves. Which of these have you found effective? What else would you add to this list? We encourage you to share your ideas and join the conversation! #ConfidentYoungLearners #SelfEsteem #ChildDevelopment #ChildMentalHealth #ProblemSolvers #CreativeThinkers #Nurture #RelationshipsMatter #LanguageMatters #Growth #AccessibleEducation #CelebrateDifferences #ContinuedLearning #Community #AuthenticSelf #Thrive #JoinTheConversation!

Do you go into an IEP meeting feeling excited? Worried? Hopeful? How do those feelings change during the meeting? When you come out of the meeting, do you feel satisfied? Frustrated? Confused? Parents, Educators, Students, Administrators and Service Providers all come to these meetings as human beings with feelings, whether those be hopes, concerns, or a vast array of potential emotions. We are interested in better understanding the types of feelings experienced during IEP meetings in an effort to better support both families and educators in meeting the unique needs of the student. When we are better able to understand one another, we can more effectively collaborate and communicate what is needed for the student to succeed. Please share this survey with anyone who participates in IEP meetings. We hope you will encourage them to share it with others as well so that we can gather a robust set of data to inform humanistic, collaborative approaches to IEP development. You can access the survey here: https://lnkd.in/gaT_kH32 We expect it will take 10 minutes or less to complete. #IEP #SpecialEducation #AccessibleEducation #Student #Teacher #Educator #SchoolAdministrator #SchoolPsychologist #OT #PT #APE #SLP #Parents #Families #Advocates #Attorneys #Disability #Neurodiversity Kelly Rain Collin
