Inclusion will never be possible if the decisions that shape the world are made only by a few, for a few. From having a say in everyday personal choices to being involved in writing laws and policies, people with disabilities demand a seat at the table where the decisions are made. So that everyone’s opinion is heard and the world is finally shaped by all. For all.? #NoDecisionWithoutUs #WorldDownSyndromeDay #WDSD25 Down's Syndrome Association Fondazione Cariplo National Down Syndrome Society Down Syndrome Australia Canadian Down Syndrome Society Global Down Syndrome Foundation The Together Academy New Zealand Down Syndrome Association (NZDSA) With Not For Down Syndrome International Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo AB Mauri Italy Società Benefit ECO DEMOLIZIONI S.R.L. Do you go into an IEP meeting feeling excited? Worried? Hopeful? How do those feelings change during the meeting? When you come out of the meeting, do you feel satisfied? Frustrated? Confused? Parents, Educators, Students, Administrators and Service Providers all come to these meetings as human beings with feelings, whether those be hopes, concerns, or a vast array of potential emotions. We are interested in better understanding the types of feelings experienced during IEP meetings in an effort to better support both families and educators in meeting the unique needs of the student. When we are better able to understand one another, we can more effectively collaborate and communicate what is needed for the student to succeed. Please share this survey with anyone who participates in IEP meetings. We hope you will encourage them to share it with others as well so that we can gather a robust set of data to inform humanistic, collaborative approaches to IEP development. You can access the survey here: https://lnkd.in/gaT_kH32 We expect it will take 10 minutes or less to complete. #IEP #SpecialEducation #AccessibleEducation #Student #Teacher #Educator #SchoolAdministrator #SchoolPsychologist #OT #PT #APE #SLP #Parents #Families #Advocates #Attorneys #Disability #Neurodiversity Kelly Rain Collin

IEP Successes! In a world where FASD is still largely misunderstood and where our education systems have not fully embraced brain-based models of learning and behavioral support, it can be frustrating to feel like the canary in the coalmine. Yet many of us have had numerous successes in advocating for effective changes for our students. We invite you to share your success and learn from the successes of others. Together, we are more powerful than alone, and together we can expand our knowledge of effective IEP strategies for students with FASD and other neurodevelopmental disabilities. Please join us on February 13th, 2025 from 4:00pm – 5:30pm PST to share your success stories and receive inspiration and hope in the stories of others. ? Our efforts to support one another have to focus not only on preventing harm, but also on the specific ways we can do #good. Nils Bergman's quote applies not only to the #medical field, but to #families, #society, #education, #business, and so much more. What are you doing that spreads #good to others? If you are in the field of #education or have a child or student you serve or care for who has (or needs) an IEP and was potentially prenatally exposed to alcohol (current estimates of FASD are #1in20 in the US), this continuing education opportunity will support you in providing and/or accessing effective supports and services for your student(s). ?? We have covered topics such as: Behavior, Goals, Language Matters, Identifying Needs, Child Find, Due Process, Adapting Therapeutic Interventions, Adapting FBAs & BIPs, Case Studies, Language & Communication Needs, Parent Reports & Parent Role in Evaluations, Nurturing Self-Esteem, Integrating FASD into all parts of the IEP, Individual Transition Plans, Neurobehavioral Approach, Neuroscience as an Effective Alternative to Rewards-Based Behavioral Interventions, Educational Therapy & RSP Supports, Early Intervention to IEP Transition, and Present Levels of Performance. Our upcoming topic in January of 2025 will be Documentation. ?? Each gathering offers an opportunity to deep dive into how to best support students with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders via the United States special education system. We combine direct interaction, discourse, case studies, and education relating to FASD & the IEP, with group participation and respectful dialogue encouraged. ?? We have brought in guest speakers who are highly knowledgeable of FASD to share their expertise and engage participants in discussion on important topics that help to facilitate appropriate and supportive educational experiences for students. During the past 19 months we have had the honor to work with: Julie Carter, Janis Reid, Nate Sheets, Christian Hancock, peg black, Emily Rusnak, Shannon Iacobacci, Eileen Devine, Shelley Ramirez, and Kelly Rain Collin. ?? We hope you'll join us as we begin #2025 and continue to improve how we can facilitate students' access to supportive and nurturing educational programming that truly meets their unique needs. ??
