Working Together to Improve Access to Health Care
关于我们
The Healthy Capital District (HCD) started with a small group of public health leaders discussing how the capital region could be more effective in identifying and addressing public health problems. More than 25 years later, we are an incorporated not-for-profit that has helped over 150,000 needy children and adults in the Capital Region get health services that they might not have accessed otherwise. By working together, area hospitals, health insurers, county health departments, catholic charities, and others have been able to determine some of the major barriers to health services and develop initiatives to greatly reduce them. Our current initiatives include health planning, facilitated enrollment for public health insurance, elementary school-based preventive oral services, and reducing minority health disparities.

Healthy Capital District celebrated World Down Syndrome Day with mismatched socks! World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is marked each year on March 21. The 21st day of March (the 3rd month of the year) was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome. Many THANKS to our Seal A Smile Director, Rebecca Hoffay Klimek, and especially to her daughter, Glory, for gifting us with our joyfully patterned mismatched socks, and for spreading awareness and acceptance!
