Our Count the Kicks New York Ambassador Bobbie Cohlan joined forces with Bronx Ambassador Yuvelca Magdalena Reyes at the Prematurity Awareness Summit this week. They had the opportunity to engage and directly educate families, healthcare providers, students, and other maternal and child health professionals on Count The Kicks. This summit had panels of experts, medical providers, and parents discussing Prematurity Awareness and its impact on families and communities and strategies for prevention. We created Count the Kicks, a successful stillbirth prevention public health campaign to save babies.
关于我们
Healthy Birth Day, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Des Moines, Iowa dedicated to healthy birth outcomes. We created the successful Count the Kicks public health campaign which has helped reduce Iowa’s stillbirth rate by 32% while the rest of the country has remained stagnant. Our evidence-based program teaches expectant parents the method for and importance of counting their baby's kicks daily in the third trimester of pregnancy. Our goal is to reduce the rest of the country's stillbirth rate by 32 percent, saving 7,500 babies every single year. Five Iowa moms who all lost daughters to stillbirth or infant death in the early 2000s turned their grief into fuel by creating the Count the Kicks awareness campaign in 2008. Kerry Biondi-Morlan, Jan Caruthers, Janet Petersen, Kate Safris and Tiffan Yamen are pioneers in stillbirth prevention, taking important fetal movement research from Norway and turning it into a successful mom-centered campaign. Moms everywhere can download the FREE Count the Kicks app which is available in the Google Play and iTunes online stores. The app, which is available in more than 15 languages, allows expectant moms to monitor their baby’s movement, record the history, set a daily reminder, count for single babies and twins.

Do you know of a free or low-cost resource that supports healthy pregnancy outcomes? We have a tool on our website that allows expectant families to search for services such as prenatal care, mental health support, dental care and food assistance. If you know a resource that would be a good fit, encourage them to add their program! https://lnkd.in/gwiRNm4s

Yesterday was our Indy Baby Shower and we are in total awe of the love that was poured into expectant families. Emma Kelly and her husband Ryan had a dream to give Indy moms a JOYFUL pregnancy experience - it’s all they wanted to bring love, joy and empowerment to local moms’ pregnancy journeys. Last night it all came together and was beyond our wildest dreams. Everyone left with a minimum $100 worth of essentials and MANY walked away with incredible raffle prizes like top of the line strollers and bassinets. Companies like The Honest Company and Carters Inc. sent hundreds of baby items. Moms and partners left with even more - empowerment from our Indy Ambassador Takeisha Smith, knowledge on urgent pregnancy and postpartum warning signs from Dr. Neil Mandsager (who came all the way from DSM!), and of course education on *how* and *why* to monitor movements from Emma + Takeisha and State Expansion Director Sarah Coleman, MPH at the Count the Kicks table. It truly took a VILLAGE to make this baby shower happen - we couldn’t have done it without help from: Indianapolis Colts Renaissance Life and Health Insurance Company of America CareSource Cradle Indy | RILEY CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL MDwise, Inc. Thank you to Greater Des Moines Partnership for inviting CEO Emily Price to speak on a panel about our Health Equity work during its Inclusion Summit this week. We appreciate the opportunity to talk about the importance of reducing disparities that persist in birth outcomes and to learn from others in this important space.
The Greater Des Moines Partnership hosted its 12th Annual Inclusion Summit this week and I was honored to speak on the health equity panel with Teri Wahlig, MD, MBA of ChildServe + Laura Jackson of Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield + Dr. Gregory Johnson of UnityPoint Health. A huge thank you to Stacey Robles, MBA + Tiffany Tauscheck, CCE, IOM, CDME and the entire Partnership team for including Healthy Birth Day, Inc. and for hosting such an important event. It’s always a good day to talk about how we can all work together to center health equity and break down barriers in access to care. So much inspiring work being done by leaders in our community!
