Join the Advance Care Planning Coalitions in South Central PA for an upcoming Virtual Death Cafe on April 18 from 6-8pm. These cafes will be held on the third Thursday of April, July and October. A Death Café is a group-directed conversation when people, often strangers, gather to talk about the topic of death with no set agenda, objectives, or themes. Death Cafés are FREE. Our very own Kathy Gaskin presented on the "Gaps in Suicide Prevention Protocols in Rural Primary Care Settings" today at Penn State University's 2024 Community and Public Health Conference alongside Dr. G. Panisri Rao of WellSpan Health Family Medicine! ???????? The presentation focused on individuals in rural communities often turning to primary care providers for mental health concerns due to limited access to behavioral health care services. A survey, conducted from Oct.-Nov. 2022, among primary care providers in two rural counties in southern Pennsylvania, inquired about current suicide prevention protocols, providers' confidence in caring for at-risk patients, challenges faced, and resource needs. Challenges reported and ways to address the gaps were discussed during the presentation.
