When we talk about health, it's not just about doctor visits or medications. Health is deeply influenced by the conditions in which we live, work, and play—these are known as social determinants of health (SDOH). Social determinants of health include factors like: ?? Access to healthcare services ?? Education and job opportunities ?? Safe housing and neighborhoods ?? Income level and economic stability ?? Access to nutritious food ?? Social support and community networks These factors can have a profound impact on a person’s well-being. For example, someone living in a food desert may struggle to find healthy food options, leading to higher risks of chronic diseases. Similarly, a lack of affordable housing can create stress and instability, which negatively affects mental and physical health. Healthlincs and its partners offer care management for special needs children and adults with chronic illnesses, often facing gaps in insurance coverage and support for social determinants of health. To address these needs, the Healthlincs Care Resource Fund, established in 2020, provides financial assistance for services and products not covered by insurance, aiming to reduce health disparities beyond promoting healthy choices.
