This recent article has shed light on a profound issue: the overwhelming treatment burdens borne by many older adults and their families. It reveals a startling reality: more than 1 in 10 individuals aged 65 and over are dedicating a significant chunk of their year—50 days or more—to navigating the complexities of their care. But is all this care essential? We need to pivot towards aligning care with older adults' genuine needs and preferences, ensuring that every treatment, appointment, and activity adds real value to their lives and that the value from each encounter is shared with others who will benefit from the information. This is where the power of integrated care plans comes into play, championing #patientchoice and placing the individual at the heart of care decisions. #SocialWorkers, #CareNavigators, #CaseManagers, and a range of #CommunityBasedOrganizations can be keys to facilitating this shift. So many people and companies (including ours) are focused on addressing these issues. But this takes a community effort.
