Speaking to the UConn Honors Program Rowe Scholars, a group of brilliant students committed to pursuing careers in health professions, was truly inspiring. No one chooses to have medical debt, which is why it's crucial to keep speaking up and taking action. Today, I had the honor of attending a Medical Debt convening at the The White House, where Director Rohit Chopra emphasized the importance of stopping medical debt and preventing it from being reported on credit reports. According to a March 2022 report by the CFPB, medical bills make up $88 billion of debt on credit reports nationwide. I want to express my gratitude to Paul, Darcy, Lindsey, and Amber for bravely sharing their stories about how medical debt has impacted their lives. In Connecticut, Health Equity Solutions is actively researching the effects of medical debt, working towards addressing its root causes and advocating to advance equity.
