The CDC reports that patients with low health literacy experience more frequent emergency room visits, longer hospital stays, and higher mortality rates. Thus, H.E.A.L aims to create a health communication and training platform for pre-health students and community members with a focus on patient-centered care and the impact of social disparities on health outcomes. In this way, our platform will be able to facilitate fellowship among local patients with the same chronic or acute disease state, create jobs within the community by rewarding healthy behavior, and educate the next generation of providers.
