As marketers, we have different ways of gathering information about audience sentiments, but do we know how they actually feel about their experience? ? Dean Browell, the Chief Behavioral Officer at Feedback, joined us on the Health Connective Show to talk about how we can get that context through other channels like peer groups and forums. ? These types of online spaces can help us to understand our customers' actual experiences and feelings. Whether a patient discussing their diagnosis or a physician looking for advice on a case, people are more open with that information when discussing with peers who have shared experiences. This can provide valuable context for our marketing efforts. ? If you'd like to hear more from our discussion with Dean, you can find the link to the full episode in the comments.

Our first MD&M West in the books
Heading home! But first, my quick MD&M West recap: Medtech often feels like a small industry, but it’s easy to forget just how many people there are in this space. There’s definitely conversation happening about how the medtech industry can do more to help entice students into this space. Cheers to the University of Southern California bioengineering department for taking the initiative and getting students down here. I posted about this earlier in the week, but there is nothing like getting the chance to hear directly from potential customers and referral partners. Last quick mention: always a blast to hang out with coworker Justin Bantuelle. It’s awesome to work with good people! It was a pleasure to meet booth neighbors from Printec Archimedic Zenith Medical Materials May your travels be smooth and uneventful!

Having great conversations at MD&M West today!
Gearing up for Day 2 of MD&M West. This place is huge! I mean, I heard it was, but seeing is definitely believing. Here are 2 of the interesting conversations we're having with people stopping by the booth: - One company is trying to demonstrate ROI on products sold to hospitals by pulling older data from health systems and then manually comparing outcomes of current procedures to that older data. So much potential for automation to save time and develop real-time comparisons! - Another company is needing something more intuitive for health systems to easily know the status of any devices coming and going from their facilities. These folks have a lot on their plate already, what can medtech companies do to reassure customers each step of the way? Connecting the dots is what we do. It's fascinating to get to hear the challenges companies are facing today and what is possible to help develop solutions in medtech!

Often, bringing in new surgical technologies involves more than just proving safety and efficacy. While these aspects are very important, the financial aspect is also a critical component. ? On the latest episode of the Health Connective Show, Dr. Michael Langworthy explains how his position as a Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery at his hospital means he has a fiduciary responsibility to his program as well as a responsibility to his patients. It's important to show that new products have a positive economic impact on the facility and reducing the cost of care. ? If you would like to hear more from Lara Wynne and Scott Zeitzer's discussion with Dr. Langworthy, we will include a link to the full episode in the comments.

One key element of success for a medtech startup, or any new business, for that matter, is having the right team around you working toward a common goal. ? Here, Allumin8 CEO Alyssa Huffman explains how the team approach improves the company’s output. Open communication and a collaborative approach allow each team member to take ownership of their part in the process, and they all work together through the successes and the failures. ? In recent years, there has been a shift in venture capital investing more in later stage startups. ? On a recent episode of the Health Connective Show, Bird Medical Group CEO Ted Bird explains the challenge this shift presents for startups. Investors want to be closer to that point of seeing a return, but innovators in the healthcare space typically need several years to develop the clinical data and evidence needed to prove their product works and gain traction in the market. ? To hear more of our discussion on the current state of medtech startups, you can find the link to the episode in the comments.

Our final highlight from the Health Connective Show this year comes from Jantzen C. Jantzen proposed a different approach to how many medtech companies position their products. Here, he advocates for centering the end user (the patient or the surgeon) as the hero of the story, and how that can really engage the people to whom you are marketing your product. If you missed Jantzen's episode, we'll link it in the comments.

Looking back on our interview with Rachel Knutton, we focused on how medtech companies can position themselves in the market. Here, Rachel explains the importance of having a memorable message and understanding that your message isn't going to appeal to everyone. If you missed Rachel's episode, we'll link it in the comments.
