The golden rule of Thanksgiving: Don’t talk politics. But what about healthcare? I’m sharing 7 rules for navigating healthcare conversations during Thanksgiving—without losing family members in the process. A Sneak Peek: - Rule #1: Find someone else who cares about healthcare before you dive in. - Rule #3: Choose spicy topics (Private equity in healthcare? Yes. Polypharmacy errors? No.) - Rule #5: Watch the “spice meter”—if two people leave the table, it’s time to change the subject. Whether you’re ready to debate continuous glucose monitors with Uncle Joe or need to steer the conversation back to Grandma’s ED visit, these rules will keep the peace. ?? Read the full article for all 7 rules: https://lnkd.in/e_pB_3gh What’s your go-to healthcare topic at the dinner table? Or do you stick to the weather?

I'm training at a really cool time in medicine: generative AI is taking off. Maybe I'm biased. Maybe you'll say that YOU trained at a really cool time in medicine. Anyway... generative AI is changing my workflows, enhancing decision-making, and giving me tools that didn’t exist a few years ago when I was in medical school. Research that used to take me an hour can now be done in seconds (thank you OpenEvidence). Writing medical necessity letters? Done with a few bullet points and AI’s magic (thank you Doximity). But here’s the big picture: Training in this era is about learning medicine, of course, but also mastering how to adapt, innovate, and use technology to improve care. The future of medicine is happening now, and it's pretty exciting to be part of it. ?? Wearable tech is having its iPod moment. But what comes next? We're done with just counting your steps or tracking your heart rate. Next is technology that predicts potential health issues and gives you real-time advice. That’s Guardian Angel Technology: wearables equipped with machine learning and predictive analytics to keep you one step ahead of your health. Here’s how it works: ?? Tracks behavior, movement, and vitals to predict outcomes—not just react to them. ?? Alerts you to risks like irregular heart rhythms or unhealthy lifestyle patterns. ?? Suggests actionable changes to keep you healthier, longer. Why does this matter? The future of wearables is knowing where you'll be tomorrow, not just today. These devices could help detect conditions early, improve outcomes, and even lower healthcare costs by preventing issues before they arise. The technology, though, will only be as impactful as its accessibility. Ensuring these innovations reach everyone, not just a select few, is key to their success. Do you see Guardian Angel Tech as the next big leap in wearable tech? ?? I wrote more details about the concept here: https://lnkd.in/e_-YJkCF

Wearable tech is evolving into something much bigger: Guardian Angel Technology. Take the ōURA Ring, for example. It’s quietly reshaping the future of health monitoring with cutting-edge features and strategic moves. Partnerships with companies like Dexcom and acquisitions like Veri show Oura’s commitment to integrating wearables into broader health ecosystems. Why does this matter? Wearables like the OURA Ring have the potential to predict health issues, enable early intervention, and even prevent serious outcomes—while you go about your daily life. Imagine your wearable detecting a gait instability, referring you to a virtual physical therapist, and preventing a fall. That’s Guardian Angel Technology in action. And as someone who’s closely following this space, I’m excited about the possibilities. What do you think—is this where wearable tech is headed? ?? Forward Health shut down—here’s why it matters. The tech-enabled primary care startup had a bold vision: to revolutionize healthcare with subscription-based care and AI-powered “CarePods.” But despite raising $660M and promising a high-tech future, Forward couldn’t overcome the challenges of operating in a primary care space that’s resistant to rapid, tech-first transformation. Startups and retail giants like Walgreens and CVS are struggling to balance innovation, affordability, and sustainability in healthcare. When these companies fail, it’s not just a business decision—it leaves patients scrambling for care and reveals deeper issues in the system. Want to know what Forward’s failure teaches us about healthcare innovation? I break it all down in this week’s Healthcare Huddle. ?? Forward Health's journey is a great lesson on healthcare innovation. Once at the forefront of streamlining primary care, Forward has officially closed its doors. This marks the end of an ambitious mission to deliver accessible, tech-enabled preventive care. Last year, Forward raised over $100M to develop self-serve AI CarePods in gyms and malls, aiming to revolutionize patient interactions with primary care providers. They raised ~$400 m total at $1B+ valuation. But today, a message on their website announces the immediate shutdown of all locations and the cancellation of appointments. Why did this happen? Forward’s vision was bold, but the journey was complex. The challenges of scaling AI in healthcare are immense—from ensuring seamless technology integration to navigating a regulatory landscape that demands high accountability. Despite substantial funding, the reality of patient needs and the unpredictability of healthcare delivery posed hurdles that Forward ultimately could not overcome. Why it matters? Disrupting primary care is difficult (look at what happened with Walmart and Walgreens). It's a critical space yet inherently resistant to rapid, tech-first transformation. Forward’s rise and fall serve as a crucial reminder that healthcare innovation demands not only capital but also adaptability, deep regulatory alignment, and, most importantly, unwavering patient trust. The "great lesson": healthcare is ripe for transformation, but Forward’s story illustrates just how high the stakes are. Check out my article on them last year when they announced the launch of AI CarePods ?? https://lnkd.in/dURr2brR

I’ve spent years in healthcare, and here’s what I know: sweeping policy changes have a real impact on patients and physicians. Project 2025 outlines major reforms that could reshape our healthcare system—from Medicaid and Medicare adjustments to new restrictions on women’s health and a push for state-led regulation. Some changes could improve efficiency and control costs, but others might reduce access for vulnerable populations. What will this mean for us on the front lines? Read my latest analysis to dive into how these policies could affect patients, physicians, and the future of healthcare. https://lnkd.in/egRnq_6v #Healthcare #Policy #Project2025 #HealthcareReform #PhysicianLeadership

What’s the most dangerous thing we do in hospitals? Give the wrong medication? Sure. Operate on the wrong leg? Definitely. Miss a critical lab result? Absolutely. But even more dangerous? Discharging a patient. Discharge might seem like a straightforward step, but it’s loaded with risks. We’re sending patients—often still vulnerable—back into an environment where follow-up, medication adherence, and specialist appointments can fall through the cracks. Why does this matter? When patients are discharged without a clear plan: - Critical information is lost or misinterpreted. - Follow-up appointments are missed. - New medications may be confusing or forgotten. We need safer discharge processes. They won't just free up a bed—they empower patients and strengthen the care continuum. Check out my latest Inefficiency Insights on the riskiest thing we do as physicians... ?? https://lnkd.in/gYng-egH Oh... and I left a little treat in the article. 20% off Huddle+ for life :) #Healthcare #PatientSafety #ContinuityOfCare #HealthcareHuddle #HuddlePlus

Can a ‘Netflix Model’ help cure Hepatitis C? We have a cure for Hepatitis C, but cost barriers still prevent millions from accessing it. The “Netflix model” for medicine, already piloted in states like Louisiana and Washington, offers a bold solution—unlimited access to hepatitis C treatment for a set subscription fee. This model aims to eliminate the virus and reduce long-term healthcare costs. Imagine if this approach expanded to chronic conditions like diabetes, obesity, or hypertension. Those GLP1s are expensive! It could be a transformative shift in public health. Read my latest Healthcare Huddle article diving into how this model works, its potential impact, and the hurdles we still need to overcome. ??https://lnkd.in/ewDMF4mw
