Did you know… ?? Medical Assistants Are on the Rise—Especially in Hospitals! The demand for medical assistants (MAs) is increasing across healthcare, including hospital settings. ?? Frees Up Providers: MAs take on routine tasks, allowing doctors and nurses to focus on more complex care. ? What’s the Outlook? 16% job growth expected by 2031 (much faster than average)! Hospitals, physician offices, and outpatient centers are increasingly relying on MAs to meet their staffing needs. Earnings: MAs in hospitals earn ~$38,200/year, which is an exceptional return on investment considering you can obtain the certification through HealthCareer Certs in approximately 8 weeks! How does a medical assistant certification benefit pre-health students? Here are some ways in which becoming a MA can allow you to gain quality clinical experience, and strongly prepare you for medical or PA school: ??Medical knowledge: Becoming a certified medical assistant will help you develop your basic medical knowledge. There are topics covered in our course that aren’t covered in the typical undergraduate pre-health classes. In addition, there are modules in our course that teach the importance of cultural competence and bedside manner. This is SO important because it can directly affect patient care. ??Earn income: Applying to medical school, PA school, or any other graduate level health professions program can get very expensive. Earning an income while gaining clinical experience can help you save money when application season comes around. There are fees that will often come up: MCAT/GRE prep resources, exam fees, secondary applications, etc. Earning an income can help you pay for these expenses. ??Relationship building: Becoming a certified medical assistant can help you build meaningful relationships with physicians and/or PAs. You will have an increased skill set compared to the typical pre-health student, which will lead to more patient care involvement. Therefore, when it’s time to obtain letters of recommendation (LOR), the physician and/or PA will be able to write a much more in-depth and compelling LOR to health professional schools on your behalf. ??Solidify passion: Finally, becoming a certified medical assistant can help solidify your passion for medicine. It can help you decide if this is really the right path for you. When you have the chance to be so involved in healthcare, you can also ask the doctor or PA questions about healthcare and learn more about the system in general. How can I afford this? One issue that some of our potential students have is the cost of our courses. There are many methods that students use to pay for our courses, and we have many options available! First, some students save their money and pay out of pocket. These students realize that our courses are an investment in your future. The skills that you will gain becoming a medical assistant, phlebotomist, patient tech, or pharmacy tech outweigh the cost. In addition, because our courses are fully online and self-paced, we are able to pass those savings onto you. Second, we offer scholarships for spouses of veterans. Please send us a direct message for more information, should you qualify. Third, we are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Afterpay and Klarna to help students pay for our courses. This splits the course cost into reasonable monthly payments. Payments start as low as $76 for our phlebotomy course and $132 for our most popular course, the CCMA course. At HealthCareer Certs, we are constantly trying to find innovative ways to make our courses as affordable as possible. It’s important to remember that these courses have positive expected value - which means that the amount of skills you will gain, and the income potential far supersede the cost of the course. Last but certainly not least, we are also guaranteeing for all US based students to refund your tuition 100% if you don’t land a job in the healthcare industry. Becoming a medical assistant can increase your networking opportunities! If you’re a pre-med or pre-health student, becoming a medical assistant can greatly help you increase your networking opportunities. Here’s how: 1. Daily Interaction with Doctors, Nurses, and Specialists: As a medical assistant, you work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers consistently, allowing you to build relationships with a wide range of professionals in the medical field. You can learn a lot from just observing and asking targeted questions. 2. Potential Mentorship: You may find mentors among the experienced medical professionals you work with, who can guide you through your career and introduce you to other opportunities. You will be able to stand out much more compared to your peers since you’re working in tandem with medical professionals constantly. 3. Stepping stone to Advanced Roles: If you're interested in becoming a nurse, physician assistant, or even a physician, working as a medical assistant provides exposure to the healthcare environment, and the relationships you build can help when it comes time for applying to schools or securing positions. Imagine being able to ask a letter of recommendation from a healthcare professional when they have had time to know, like, and trust you. 4. Educational Networking: If you're pursuing further education, you may meet classmates, instructors, or administrators who can provide networking opportunities in other healthcare sectors. You never know who you will meet. It is quite common for faculty members of medical schools to spend some time in the clinical setting, where medical assistants are frequently staffed. 5. Job Referrals and Recommendations: Healthcare professionals you work with may recommend you for other roles or advanced positions if you’ve built a good rapport and proven your skills. It takes time to nurture those relationships, so the earlier you can start the better! For the current medical/PA students, residents, PAs, or attending physicians out there…if you were a medical assistant, how did it help you?
