Honored to share remarks at the Day School Initiative Fellowship Breakfast that is bringing together a range of Jewish denominational schools who participated in a The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey funded project that brought together teachers from across day schools to understand “deep listening” and how it could be integrated into the school to support the social and emotional wellbeing of students. Project Meducate is committed to tackling healthcare disparities and nurturing the next generation of compassionate healthcare providers by delivering free clinics and education to underserved communities. We are pleased to make a $5,000 Special One-time grant to Project Meducate to allow the group to conduct screenings and educational seminars in Newark and Elizabeth in the coming months. An estimated 400 individuals will receive free screenings for BMI, hypertension and diabetes - hopefully catching chronic conditions early and putting individuals on a path to better care. The Arts Literarium is a student-led publication published each year by The Healthcare Foundation of NJ Center for Humanism and Medicine at Rutgers NJ Medical School @rutgersnjms.?The journal serves as an open creative space where Rutgers Health’s faculty, staff and students express themselves through narrative medicine. Recently, Rutgers Today published a history of the journal, tracing the publication from its creation by first-year medical student Sanjila Islam in 2016 to today.?The article also links to the latest issue of Ars Literarium. This year's budget crisis at the East Orange School District has led to deep cuts in programs, including mental health services for students. That's why we are pleased to announce that The Healthcare Foundation of NJ has made a $15,655 Special One-time grant to Hope Lives Here to allow the continuation of counseling to students and consultations with teachers through the end of the school year at Cicely L. Tyson Community Elementary School in East Orange. Through Hope Lives Here, a certified clinicians provides individual counseling sessions with students, helping to decrease anxious and depressive symptoms, improve disruptive and impulsive behavior, and help them strengthen their emotional regulation. With the grant from HFNJ, the students and their families will not have to face a discontinuation of services this school year.

Our fourth quarter of 2024 was our largest grant cycle of the year, with eleven awards totaling $3,515,084 given to improve health in the community. The two largest grants of the quarter will help to strengthen area hospitals: a $1,250,000 award to Trinitas Regional Medical Center to modernize its Cardiac Catheterization Lab, and a $1,000,000 award to Overlook Medical Center to create the HFNJ Adolescent Behavioral Health Center.
