Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH) calls for a bipartisan approach to health policy that extends beyond general practice funding to include digital health infrastructure and AI regulations. We commend the significant #PreElection commitments from both major political parties to invest $8.5 billion in general practice, but we urge similar commitments for digital health. A non-partisan policy approach to digital health will address challenges like fragmentation, inequity, and cybersecurity, ultimately benefiting both patients and clinicians. Investing in digital health infrastructure and building robust AI regulations is essential for a modern, digitally enabled healthcare system in Australia. Interested in reading more? Bipartisan health policy needed for digital health, by Anja Nikolic. If the major parties can agree on funding general practice, then surely they can agree on funding digital health infrastructure and bipartisan policies on AI in healthcare? https://lnkd.in/gQHMKFhq #digitalhealth #generalpractice

SA Branch Event Recap - Ensuring Seamless Care: Clinical Integration Across Healthcare Providers Last week, we had an impressive turnout for a thought-provoking discussion on clinical integration. Stanek Jan, FAIDH kicked off the evening with John’s story, a seemingly healthy 60-year-old who faced a series of challenges that led him through various healthcare facilities. His journey highlights the critical need for integrated care, as he navigated different providers and systems. A/Prof Georg Grossmann shared exciting updates from the Industrial AI Research Centre, which will soon be part of Adelaide University. With over 20 years of expertise in data modelling, integration and interoperability, the centre has recently expanded into the health sector. Last year, they launched the Digital Health Innovation and Clinical Informatics Lab in collaboration with the Rosemary Bryant Research Centre. Georg emphasised the importance of creating conceptual models that abstract from low-level code, ensuring clarity and reusability across various scenarios. These models support processes like patient referrals, demonstrating their practical applications in digital health. Kate Ebrill highlighted the importance of standards in healthcare and the role of the Sparked community. The Sparked program, funded through the federal budget in May 2023 as part of the Strengthening Medicare initiatives, aims to enable connected care by ensuring seamless data exchange across the healthcare system. Kate emphasised the significance of standards in making data flow efficiently from one healthcare provider to another, ensuring that patients like John have their data follow them throughout their healthcare journey. She also discussed the AU Core Data for Interoperability and the AU Core Implementation Guide, which support connected care within Australia. Kate encouraged attendees to join the Spark community, participate in monthly meetings and technical groups. Dr Marc Belej presented the SA Health context and their roadmap for interoperability, focusing on putting the patient at the centre of care. Despite having one of the best healthcare systems in the world, there is room for improvement through the effective use of technology and data. Marc outlined a six-phase plan for SA Health, emphasising the importance of assembling resources, aligning technology and leveraging interoperability standards. The goal is to create a solution-agnostic interoperability layer, including a FHIR health information exchange, terminology services and enriched data with national identifiers. Marc highlighted the importance of aligning with national standards and the ADHA's interoperability plan to improve patient experiences, clinical outcomes and equity of access to healthcare services. Thank you to EY for hosting the event and their ongoing support. Tina Hardin Natalie T. Belinda Lange Leanne March Michelle Dobie Dr Emily Kirkpatrick Kerry McKeough
