关于我们
Founded in 2003, the Health Improvement Alliance was formed to help address the health needs of the Greater Bridgeport community. HIA is a coalition of two neighboring hospitals, Bridgeport Hospital and St. Vincent's Medical Center, along with seven departments of health, federally qualified health centers and approximately 50 community and non-profit organizations all serving the Greater Bridgeport Region. HIA partners work together to identify, prioritize, and measurably improve the health and community through prevention, education and services.

Members of our Community Coalition connected in partnership this week to hear about the different ways to be involved in HIA, to express what HIA means to them, and discuss why this unique collaborative is so important. Aligned with collaboration, community, and networking, the group held insightful conversations around accessing funding, developing a new mission and vision, expanding reach through communications, and brainstorming ideas for upcoming collaborative events. Such an exciting morning together! We look forward to what the future holds as we continue working towards improving the health and wellbeing of Greater Bridgeport.

There have been so many great things going on the past 6 weeks…. Today I’m going to focus on Mental Health First Aid. Late last year, St. Vincent’s was awarded a grant by the State of Connecticut Social Equity Council and the United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut. Working in partnership with the Health Improvement Alliance and the Behavioral Health Task Force, our goal is to train 135 residents from and professionals serving the City of Bridgeport. On June 8, Citlaly Ibarra and Nilda Paris held their first training in Spanish at Make the Road CT, where they certified 22 residents as Mental Health First Aiders! Providing mental health focused education in Spanish is a very intentional response to our 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment. So proud of this team and the three other teams who are working hard to meet the goals of this generous grant and build capacity in early mental health intervention within the community! We at HIA recognize that working together to help improve the health of our community goes hand in hand with our own journeys of continuous learning. In the spirit of learning over 40 HIA members gathered at Fairfield University on Thursday, June 6. Joined by Yale New Haven Health's Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Consultant Kwame Davenport, we embarked on a very robust and interactive discussion on cultural awareness, what it means for us and those we serve, and why it matters. As we continue to reflect on what we learned, we also look forward to providing more opportunities for these meaningful conversations to happen in different places and spaces. #healthimprovementalliance #hia #classstandards #culturalhumility Gina Smith Brian Gomez Citlaly Ibarra Marilyn Faber Nilda Paris Sarah Lehberger Paula Garay, DHSc., MBA, MA Jennifer Clarke-Lofters, MPA Thamarlande Onesair, MPH Keyla Medina Cassandra Mulcahy, MMT, MT-BC Olivia Frzop Anthony J.
