Rubber chickens are here, there and everywhere throughout our offices, that’s no secret, but did you know one rubber chicken is permanently enshrined in the entryway of our Circleville warehouse? While its origin remains a mystery, Matt Carver, Director of Facilities and Safety, shares his version of this legendary entombment and what it symbolizes for our team: Some say this rubber chicken was supposed to be a sort of time capsule, a mascot or a sacrifice to the warehouse gods. ? Others think it was a quirky way to fill a hole in the concrete floor that should have housed a water meter or electric box. A happy little accident? If that was the case, why would such great care have been given to the rectangular cutout, so neatly painted, carpeted and sealed in bullet-proof Plexiglas? ? Oh, it’s more than an afterthought. It’s even been said that in dark times, the rubber chicken will break free from its resting place and save all of mankind. I like to think it’s from the brain of Mr. Gary Sharpe, HCL? Owner, who said, “You don’t have to be crazy to work here, but it helps.” Who would entomb a rubber chicken in an entryway of one of their buildings? Gary Sharpe would. ? A reminder to have fun every day and always take care of the customer — that’s what I think it means!
