Yesterday marked the 15th anniversary of the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Nearly 50 million people have received affordable health insurance through the ACA marketplaces, another 21 million are now covered through the expansion of Medicaid, and over 133 million people with pre-existing conditions are able to get health insurance coverage. These are just three of the dozens of “Obamacare” provisions that make all of our lives better, healthier and more affordable. As someone who spent close to a decade traveling almost weekly to Washington, DC to work on drafting, passing, implementing and defending the ACA, I firmly believe this law remains one of the most incredible health care achievements in a generation. Passing this bill was very hard. There were many partisan disagreements in Congress about how to approach the bill, and a wide-range of stakeholders who had a range of interests driving their advocacy. However, it was the bipartisan Massachusetts model supported by a wide-range of stakeholder groups that laid the foundation for the ACA. It was our Democratically-led legislature, Republican governor, consumer advocates, hospitals, providers, insurers, community organizations, faith groups, businesses, and so many others who came together and ultimately made “Romneycare”, Chapter 58, a success. Medicaid – known in Massachusetts as MassHealth - is under threat right now from Congress! It is critical that you tell your Congressmembers to speak out and defend, not de-fund, access to health care. Join the National Day of Action TODAY to protect Medicaid: https://lnkd.in/gsQvXeKe

1 in 8 residents - or nearly 900,000 people - currently have medical debt in MA. This new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau rule from President Biden's administration protects residents & helps them better afford necessary expenses, like housing & groceries. HCFA joins Health Law Advocates in urging the incoming administration to keep it in place #MAPoli
The CFPB's new rule from the Biden administration to remove #medicaldebt from #creditcreports will bring huge relief to millions of consumers who have had their credit histories devastated by injury or illness. HLA and Health Care For All urge the incoming administration to keep it in place. https://lnkd.in/edVVycnA

Oh, to be in the room where it happened! What a special day to be at the State House when Governor Maura Healey signed two important bills aimed at strengthening health care market oversight and addressing rising prescription drug costs. Congratulations to everyone who played a role in making this happen. I am, once again, so proud and grateful to live in Massachusetts. It was especially meaningful to celebrate alongside Health Equity Compact co-founders Michael Curry, Esq. and Jeffrey Sánchez, MPA who are incredible advocates and who are ever so gracious in lifting up others (myself included). And, I had a proud Health Care For All Board of Directors moment hearing Executive Director Amy Rosenthal speak about how these bills will have a significant positive impact for patients across the state, including in the Nashoba Valley Medical Center region within The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts' service area. These two bills demonstrate how Massachusetts continues to lead on health care reform... AND there is still much more we need to do to advance health equity in Massachusetts. Don't worry -- the Health Equity Compact is hard at work preparing to refile its omnibus health equity bill, so stay tuned!
