Regarding your health, open conversations with loved ones matter more than you know. Imagine Ms. Winnie Childs' surprise when a casual chat with her siblings revealed they were all experiencing the same unexplained symptoms—symptoms that doctors couldn’t pinpoint for years. It wasn’t until later that she was diagnosed with hATTR Amyloidosis, a rare but serious condition that can be passed down through families. Click the link to watch the full Heart Disease Community Conversation, in which Ms. Childs and other heart patients share their journeys and shed light on this often-overlooked condition. Let’s keep the conversation going—and protect our families through awareness. Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when you make healthy choices. Here are a few simple steps to reduce your risk: - Get Screened Regularly: Regular screenings, like colonoscopies, can detect precancerous polyps early, allowing for prompt treatment. The American Cancer Society recommends starting screening at age 45, but talk to your doctor about what’s best for you. - Adopt a Fiber-Rich Diet: Eating plenty of fiber from fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes supports healthy digestion and helps reduce the risk of colon cancer. Aim for at least 25-30 grams of fiber daily. - Stay Physically Active: Regular exercise (at least 30 minutes a day, most days of the week) not only promotes a healthy weight but also supports optimal digestion and reduces inflammation. - Quit Smoking: Long-term smoking increases the risk of colorectal and other cancers. If you smoke, seek support to quit and reduce your cancer risk. - Moderate Alcohol Consumption: Excessive alcohol intake can increase your risk, so limit your intake to one drink per day for women and two for men. By making these lifestyle changes and staying proactive about your health, you can significantly reduce your risk of colon cancer. Spread the word and encourage your loved ones to do the same! #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth #HealthAdvocacy #PreventCancer #HealthyLiving #GetScreened
