?? Today marks my first ever open source contribution! I got a PR accepted to Puter, a cloud-based OS with 29k ?? and 2k forks on Github! Rishabh Shinde and I worked with Puter's AIChatService module to implement UsageLimitedChatService, which automatically notifies the user via the normal chat dialog if they've exceeded their usage limit! What I learned? 1?? Sometimes it takes hours to write 10 lines of code 2?? Open source (and developing in a big environment) emphasizes quality code over how many commits you can make 3?? If you don't understand something, work with someone else because they can point out the stuff you missed. Then you feel stupid for missing it Thanks to: - Eric Dubé, CTO of Puter, whose help was invaluable - Headstarter, Yasin Ehsan (Hiring) ??, and Faizan Ahmed for their network - Rishabh Shinde who is goated & so smart go check him out #headstarter #ai #softwareengineering #opensource #development #technology #cloud #puter

puter.ui.alert("Commits Merged!?") – Even cloud-born OS should have nice alerts. Puter boasts 29K+ GitHub stars and 300K+ users worldwide, and if you've ever seen an alert dialog box pop up while using it, I likely had something to do with it. I recently enhanced puter.ui.alert(), providing developers with more control and more reasonable defaults. Alerts can now be customized with info, question, error, and warning icons, so system messages are more intuitive and unambiguous. Puter is not just another cloud platform, it's disrupting infrastructure itself. Applications on Puter run in "user space", i.e., zero infrastructure cost—1 user or 1 billion users. No servers, no DevOps, no API keys, and no surprise bills. Just deploy and build. ???? This is my second open source contribution, and it's exciting to be developing something that's revolutionizing the way we think about cloud computing. I wanna know your thoughts on 'OS as a Service', where apps run without infrastructure costs. Check it out: https://puter.com/ docs: https://docs.puter.com/ #puter #Headstarter #OpenSource

HOW TO PLAY CHESS NOT CHECKERS as **CS STUDENT**: ↓ Do the opposite of what everyone does. - leetcode 150 - complain about cs - complain about market Instead do this: 1 / Leetcode is likely not a long-term paradigm. Ai can solve all leetcode problems. So build some ai tool that does that. Or something unique and cool. Ie build high-grade quality hard ai projects Trust me, most people from recruiters to cs students have very little understanding of ai Anything you will likely feel behemoth to them. Where as you do 600 leetcode and people will be like “oh its just leetcode” Vs if you spent 60 hours on one ai project or 3 ai projects, they will see you as “hella cracked” “Bro locked in” “Girl is slaying” And the equivalent statements a recruiter will also think 2 / complaining about cs means you are trying to hard. Look, some people are just naturally smart and hard working. They have elite Math and English fundamentals. If you are that go hard on getting good at cs, but DO NOT COMPLAIN. If you are not that, quit trying soo hard to get high gpa. do bare minimum to pass with C. What is this, the 1980s? No. We are in ai world, gpa does NOT matter as much. Education is just one line on your resume, what do the other the 50 lines under say? Do projects and do co-ops during semesters for free. Go find another classmate OR go find a startup in an incubator short on funds and work for 4weeks to 4 months. For free. On resume put “software engineering intern.” So many cs feel an undeserved sense of self worth. Bite the bullet, grease the elbows and GRIND the kitchen (metaphorically) for free or low pay during college So you can work $150-200k base offers even before you graduate college. (But make sure if you intern or do free work or any work its actual hardcore coding Not qa, cyber, it, cloud admin, wordpress, or swe intern with no responsibility ) Think think think. Do not be deer in headlights. 3 / do not complain about market. Network. See, a business major ie finance, investment banking, private equity etc They will email 50 people every week to land that jp morgan interview (google equivalent for our major) But they all know that. They do not complain. BUT WE… scurry away from sending cold dms. And in case where we send them. Its ugly, desperate and unthoughtful. For the love of god, grow up and be better at socializing via cold dm. Like it or not, you are a sales person as a cs student. Dont be the cs sales kid who couldn’t meet qouta that quarter. Go OWN your networking. this is self explanatory. Which one you agree most?

Over the past two weekends, Andrew Shiroma and I worked together to develop Autocompleter, a Chrome extension that leverages AI to autofill text in any online textarea. This lightweight writing assistant is designed to help you write (almost) anywhere on the web ????. How It Works: - ? Two core JavaScript files: One handles DOM manipulation, the other integrates Gemini AI. - ?? Context scraping: The extension collects page context (like headers and keywords) upon loading to improve AI suggestions. - ?? Debounced keystrokes: As you type, it triggers Gemini API requests and displays predictions in a hidden overlay div that matches the site’s style. - ?? Simple interaction: Press Tab to accept a suggestion and move it directly to the textarea. - ?? Customizable AI: A small popup allows you to adjust AI instructions or switch between models. Tech Stack: Vanilla JS, Gemini API Challenges: - ??? DOM Manipulation: Aligning the overlay with each website’s unique styles was a headache. Despite using computed styles, some sites still broke the illusion. - ?? Prompt Engineering: Initially, Gemini would treat partial inputs like “Why is…” as a prompt for a full essay. We solved this by implementing stricter instructions, though it still breaks every now and then. - ?? Whitespace/Alignment: Newlines and tabs in the AI’s responses often caused misalignment with the textarea. A combination of prompt engineering and regex helped partially resolve the issue. While I would have loved to deploy it, the extension still breaks on some websites due to style conflicts and hidden elements, so it's currently a prototype. That said, it works pretty well on simpler pages. Check out a quick demo below! Also, this project marks the end of my time with Headstarter. A huge thank you to Faizan Ahmed and Yasin Ehsan (Hiring) ?? for challenging me with valuable projects and for welcoming me into the Headstarter community. From the start of the fellowship in July through to the end of the resident program, I’ve not only gained valuable skills in Next.js, React, and TypeScript, but I’ve also became more confident in developing applications and solutions. More importantly, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the broader considerations that go into creating something from start to finish—regardless of the specific technologies used. ??

Quick way to vet CS STUDENT: Ask “what are you building?” If you see their eyes light up and they talk about code, idea and why its important to them. Good signal. If they talk about idea, no implementation ie didn’t get off local host with excuses like school, job hunt etc Weak signal. You cant control how someone interprets your work. But you can self-advocate what you build from passion. You actually dont have to sell yourself. Your work, body language, tone will come out. It will dial a chord with the listener. Agree?

Computer Science @ OCC | Prev SWE Fellow, Resident @ Headstarter

Hey everyone! As many of you know, I’ve spent the past five months participating in Headstarter's Accelerator program. It’s incredible just how quickly the time's flown by, and now, my journey through the program has come to a close. Yesterday marked my final day as a Headstarter Software Engineering Resident. Throughout my residency: ? I developed and deployed 14 AI applications ? I experimented with creating my own recommendation algorithm, built an AI-powered code editor, and trained a model to predict financial market instability ? I was introduced to exciting technologies, like Modal's serverless cloud infrastructure and open-source projects Judge0 and Puter ? I honed my problem-solving skills by working through LeetCode-style DSA problems in AI-led mock interviews ? On top of that, I had the opportunity to meet regularly with my mentor for code reviews and updates on my internship search Now that I've completed my residency, I'm excited to chart my own course and put these AI skills and the experience I've gained to great use. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who made this program such a valuable experience: To Yasin Ehsan and Faizan Ahmed of Headstarter, to Hassan Syed, Nabeel Farooqui, Angelica Iacovelli, and Abdullah Nauman, and to all the founders we had the chance to speak with—including Nariman Jelveh, who we met just this week. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to mentor and guide us. It was inspiring to hear about your journeys and learn from some of the best. For anyone looking to gain hands-on experience in iterative development, open-source contributions, data structures and algorithms, or building solutions to real problems that startups are trying to solve right now, I highly recommend giving Headstarter's Accelerator a shot. Especially if you struggle with accountability or staying motivated—Yasin does a fantastic job of making sure you stay on track. Excited for what this next chapter holds! ?? #HeadstarterAccelerator #AI #TechCommunity #SoftwareEngineering #CSstudent

You just never know. Which project takes off. Which team brings the best out of you. Which user or customer opens light blub. Which code segment creates value. Which prompt engineering leads to retention. Which landing page yeilds eyeballs for virality. Which launch post, tweet or linkedin gives feedback. Which git commit, pr or merge sticks together. Which little atomic action makes your project take off. What you do know: did you GOL- “Get off Local Host.” Yes or No. agree?
