I love how the building combines modern industrial elements with a touch of Southern warmth. Last week, I shared photos of an ungentrified area in Brooklyn. But as the L train pulled into the very next stop (New Lots Ave), I spotted a modern building that stood out from everything around it. I quickly snapped a photo from the train window. After some research, I found out this building is part of Van Sinderen Plaza, a new development in East New York. This area has struggled with poverty for a long time, but Van Sinderen Plaza is helping to change that. Designed by GLUCK+ architects, it offers 130 affordable housing units and outdoor spaces that connect with the community. Gentrification has changed many parts of Brooklyn, but this is the Brooklyn I remember from growing up. Today, I took the New Lots 3 train to Junius Street, got off, and walked a block to transfer to the L train at Livonia Avenue. It was an honor to serve as a judge for this month's Huntsville Photography Society photo contest. The theme was "Nature in Motion." Even though this was my second or third year doing it, it in the competition, it was still a very nerve-racking experience to judge other photographers' work and provide feedback with them sitting right behind me. LOL Congratulations to all the winners and every brave photographer who submitting their work. It truly takes courage to enter your work into competition and I believe it makes us better!
