Listening with the intent to understand is what I saw last night at Marci Lesko's United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley gathering of Latinx leaders. I'm grateful to her, Marci Martinez-Howey, Erin Connelly , Madeline Collis Falcone, and Jose Rivera for making the time to enjoy a meal together and for hearing our concerns as well as ideas on how to invest in our Latinx community. Our Lehigh Valley thrives when all segments of our Valley do better and that is why I'm grateful for last night's conversation. We didn't take a group shot, but here are the stragglers like me who stayed behind to brainstorm. P.S. The Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley serves families in a fast-growing region of eastern Pennsylvania that includes the cities of Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton. With help from the Valley's three local mayors, they created a successful media campaign that challenged myths about vaccines. This organization truly embodies the theme of this year's Hispanic Heritage Month: Pioneers of Change.

The St. Luke’s Linguistic & Cultural Workforce Development Center, in partnership with Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley and Northampton Community College (NCC), celebrated the first Phlebotomy skill-based training class. Eight participants completed their training last month at NCC’s Fowler Center and more than half of them chose to complete their externship at St. Luke’s University Health Network. The Linguistic & Cultural Workforce Development Center assists workers at any stage in their career to train for and access employment opportunities that meet the demands of local employers. Meet our HCLV Staff! Get to know our Operations Manager: What's your favorite season? Fall! Best time of the year for my hair lol. Stays nice and straight and shiny. Plus I love turtlenecks and cardigans. Where are you from? My parents were born and raised in Arecibo, PR. I was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and raised in South Bethlehem for the last 51 years What's your favorite 'Hispanic' song currently? Como La Flor by Selena Why HCLV? I must have driven past HCLV all my life. My parents always told me why don't you work for HCLV? Wrong timing all those years but landing a position at HCLV has definitely been my calling. It's a passion I have to not only help people but to help people in the same community that I was raised in. Not only do I work here but am humbled to be able to oversee all the programs we have to offer to our community that definitely make a difference. HCLV does make a difference in many lives and I am happy to be a part of that.

I was connected HCLV as a child through the WIC program and since then I have known the importance of what we do. I was honored when offered the chance to become Executive Director. I connect with our mission, and I am grateful to lead a team that cares so deeply about the issues concerning the Hispanic community.
