One year after a life-changing accidental fire, burn survivor David Johnson returned to thank the team members who helped him on his road to recovery. ?? In fall of 2023, David was working in his garage when a spark from a propane heater ignited clothes and hand sanitizer in the back pocket of his overalls. He sustained burn injuries on 17% of his body and required emergency air transport to TriStar Skyline Medical Center. As a Level I Trauma Center staffed with nationally recognized burn care specialists, the Middle Tennessee hospital became David's home for the next 46 days. Colleagues from the burn intensive care unit to rehabilitation supported David every step of the way. “I’ve been at many hospitals, but this is one of the only places where I’ve actually felt at home,” David said. “People here genuinely care — from the nursing staff to rehab to housekeeping. ???A Heartfelt Thank You to His Care Team??? Two months ago, Jody Tittle celebrated a birthday he will never forget. After enjoying a special meal with his family, he found himself in our TriStar Horizon Medical Center emergency room with heart attack symptoms just hours later. Jody’s resilience stunned our ER team as they worked quickly to assess his condition. In our cardiac cath lab, specialists performed a procedure to open his blocked artery. He required multiple shocks to restart his heart, but his team never gave up. ???“I knew this could be it, and I was okay with that. But I didn’t want to go that way. God has always been faithful, and I was comforted by that.” This past week, Jody and his wife, Lynn, reunited with the heroes who saved his life — his ER doctor, nurses, interventionalist, respiratory therapists, ICU staff and cardiac nurses. The emotional reunion was filled with hugs, gratitude and shared faith.???
