We are grateful to our colleagues who work in public health and create #HealthierTomorrows for our patients and communities every day. Recently, Virginia and Illinois government officials shared a resolution to make Nov. 25, "Public Health Professionals Day." Like this post if you think this should become a national observance. ??

Triplets, Orhan, Zohan and Dayan, are warm and cozy in their handmade beanies — all thanks to some generous crocheters. ?? Henrico Doctors' Hospital, part of Henrico, Parham & Retreat Doctors' Hospitals, was gifted a box full of handmade beanies, ranging in sizes, even small enough to fit the tiny patients in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Heartfelt gifts, like the box full of beanies, serve as a warm hug for our patients and colleagues. The donor shared she felt it was important to give back to the hospital community that supported her through the birth of her son and two grandchildren. During this season of gratitude, we are thankful for our incredible patients and generous community members. ?? #Thankful

Today is National Rural Health Day, and we're proud to recognize the #PositiveImpact that some of our LewisGale Regional Health System hospitals have had in our Southwestern Virginia's rural communities. LewisGale Hospital Pulaski and Lewisgale Alleghany have been delivering high-quality care and a wide range of health services to patients in the New River Valley and Alleghany County. They've also provided excellent job opportunities and positive economic contributions to the regions. Today, the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA) recognized some of HCA Virginia Health System's contributions in their Virginia Rural Hospital Report. They acknowledged our "innovative Direct Admission process" in response to the "growing challenges faced by rural hospitals in managing behavioral health needs" to help prevent unnecessary emergency room visits. You can learn more on page 10 of VHHA's report: https://bit.ly/4hXVtdI Please join us in recognizing our colleagues at LewisGale Pulaski and LewisGale Alleghany and all rural hospitals! ?? #HealthierTomorrows #NationalRuralHealthDay #PowerOfRural

We're proud to announce that CJW Medical Center, part of HCA Virginia Health System, collected more unused and expired medications than any other facility in our extended organization during HCA Healthcare's sixth annual Crush the Crisis event on National Prescription Drug #TakeBackDay. Last month, HCA Healthcare facilities across the country partnered with law enforcement and collected 21,137 pounds of unused and expired medications. This surpasses last year’s totals and is the most HCA Healthcare has ever collected during the annual event. In total, HCA Healthcare has now collected more than 88,600 pounds of medication since launching “Crush the Crisis” as an enterprise initiative in 2019. ? Today, on Veterans Day, we're humbled to lift up one of our own colleagues. Mike Pauciullo has served in various medical support roles for the Army Reserve since 2008. He wanted to help others but wasn’t sure how — until his captain recognized his potential for critical care nursing. After graduating nursing school in 2020, Mike joined the CJW Medical Center team on the neuroscience intensive care unit (NSICU). He's now a clinical nurse coordinator and oversees the unit's daily operations. Mike says his favorite part of work is making someone smile on their worst day. "It can be nurses, it can be patients. My whole reason for healthcare is just to help,” says Mike. The NSICU leaders are big advocates for Mike’s military service. They attended his promotion ceremony, push him to continue in his career and accommodate his commitment to serving his country. He even weaves his service into his nursing career when he creates a “table for the fallen” each Memorial Day, demonstrating his appreciation for those who served in the military before him. Thank you, Mike, for selflessly showing up for your patients, community and country. #VeteransDay #HCAVeterans

On this Veterans Day, we join our HCA Healthcare family in honoring the contributions and commitment of those who selflessly served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Each veteran makes a positive impact in our communities through their service in and outside of the hospital. HCA Healthcare is proud to have thousands of military colleagues, having hired more than 60,000 veterans, active duty personnel and military spouses since 2012. Today, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who have honorably served and their family members. Our military colleagues truly exemplify our mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. #HCAVeterans #VeteransDay

We're proud to be part of HCA Healthcare, the nation's leading network for delivering babies, with more than 212,000 babies born at our hospitals last year. As March of Dimes reports, 1 in 10 babies in the U.S. are born prematurely, arriving before 37 weeks of pregnancy. This #PrematurityAwarenessMonth, please join us in celebrating our tiniest patients and their dedicated caregivers. Here are a couple of little ones from CJW Medical Center who celebrated their first Halloween with us last week. #HealthierTomorrows #Preemie

Our HCA Virginia colleagues brought light to the darkness of cancer alongside community members at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night event at Innsbrook North Shore Commons Lawn last Saturday. Friends, families, schools and more gathered together to celebrate, honor and remember those touched by blood cancer. HCA Virginia and Sarah Cannon Cancer Network raised $11,184 to help provide lifesaving research, advocacy and support for blood cancer patients and their families. We thank our Richmond hospital colleagues from CJW Medical Center and Henrico, Parham & Retreat Doctors' Hospitals for showing up and raising funds for this worthy cause.
