Today, and every day, we remember the lives we lost on Sept. 11, 2001, their families and the survivors who witnessed it all. Alongside our HCA Healthcare family, we pause to honor the brave actions of our first responders and everyday citizens who selflessly and courageously fought back. We remember, always. #NeverForget #PatriotDay

Persistence pays off! Cristine Solomon, a Care Manager in Continental Division, identified that a recently hospitalized patient was diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia that had not been addressed during her stay.?Cristi contacted the patient after discharge and encouraged her to present to an HCA Healthcare hospital to have that concern addressed. The patient initially declined, but Cristi continued to call every day to check on her. After a few days being back home, the patient let Cristi know that she was feeling worse. Cristi continued to advocate for the patient’s return to the hospital to have her arrhythmia addressed. The patient finally agreed.?During her hospital stay, her doctors told her that coming back to the hospital might have saved her life. She was prescribed medication to control her symptoms and was connected with a Physician Services cardiology practice for follow-up care. Once discharged, the patient called Cristi to express gratitude for her persistence and dedication.

On Aug. 7, Laura Zimmerman, Practice Manager at Fort Walton-Destin ENT, and her two sons, aged 12 and 16, dedicated their day to supporting Walker Elementary School in Okaloosa County, Florida. This initiative was part of a larger community project led by HCA Healthcare hospitals in the area to prepare local schools for the upcoming academic year.? ? The Zimmermans joined 90 volunteers from various organizations, donating a combined 540 hours in a collaborative effort to improve the learning environment at nine schools across the district.?? ? Despite it being a beautiful summer day, Laura’s boys were eager to participate, a testament to their enthusiasm for community service. As past Walker Elementary students themselves, they were also excited to reconnect with their former teachers.? ? The volunteers engaged in various tasks at the school, including outdoor cleanup, recycling removal and decorating hallways with inspirational messages. They also organized student workbooks and helped teachers set up their classrooms, making significant contributions to the school’s readiness for the new school year.? ? Kathryn Gamble, newly appointed DPS, was delighted to see Laura represent HCA Healthcare so positively. She also reaffirmed the practice’s unwavering commitment to showing up for the community. “I’ve always known the power of community engagement,” she said. “This event was another opportunity to extend our passion for care beyond the four walls of our facilities and into the community.”?? ? School Superintendent Marcus Chambers expressed his gratitude for HCA Healthcare’s efforts to spearhead the multi-school project, highlighting the significant impact. “Our community’s unwavering support for our students, teachers and schools is truly inspiring,” Chambers said. “Acts of kindness like this make a profound impact on our district, and we are incredibly grateful to these volunteers for their steadfast support.”? ? We extend our gratitude to our hospital partners in the area for their role in organizing this event. We also thank Laura and her sons for their support of their local schools, which has not only helped HCA Healthcare shine but also made a difference in the community. #healthiertomorrows #weshowup

At the end of their quarterly meeting on March 27, the North Texas Practice Operations Finance team closed their laptops, rolled up their sleeves and prepared 23,000 meals for children in underdeveloped nations. Spearheaded by Assistant Controller Jessica Mesinovic, MSHM, MBA, this half-day volunteer project, in partnership with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), served as a valuable community service and a unique team-building exercise. At FMSC’s packing facility, volunteers dedicated their efforts to assembling MannaPacks, which contain a mixture of rice and vitamin concentrates designed by nutritionists to help reduce problems with malnutrition in poverty-stricken areas. Jess and her team, alongside other volunteer groups from organizations like Texas Instruments, were tasked with preparing these packs for distribution. The results were remarkable. Over a few hours, the team packed 106 boxes, equaling nearly 23,000 meals, enough to feed 62 children for an entire year. This endeavor not only highlighted the urgency of addressing global hunger but also showcased the power of collaborative effort in achieving significant results. Competing with other teams fostered a sense of excitement and engagement, transforming a standard volunteer activity into an inspiring team-building experience. Jess observed that volunteering offered a deeper sense of accomplishment than traditional recreational team-building events, as it combined personal fulfillment with impactful community service. “While working on the MannaPacks, we were able to talk and have fun while accomplishing something together as a team,” Jess said. “It felt like we truly made a difference.” This initiative was part of a broader strategy by Jess’s team to integrate public service into their quarterly meetings. Assistant CFO Kristal Adam recommended this approach based on her past positive experiences with similar activities. The team’s enthusiastic response to this integration underscored its effectiveness in fostering community engagement and internal cohesion. “Our teams may not have patient-facing roles,” Kristal said. “However, they are an important part of providing healthcare to our community. We were honored to partner with FMSC to provide food that will improve the lives of children we will likely never meet, much like we are honored to support those who provide healthcare each day.” Following the success of this event, Jess and her team are not resting on their laurels. They are committed to continuing this tradition of combining public service with team development. Their dedication is fueled by the benefits of making a significant community impact while strengthening their connection as a team.? The success of this project illustrates how we can work together to show up for our communities, creating a win-win situation for both the community and the organization. Kudos to the North Texas Financial Team for showing up! #healthiertomorrows #weshowup
