    We partnered with the HCA Healthcare Foundation to provide a $25,000 Health Equity Catalyst Grant to the Food Equality Initiative, Inc., to help provide nutritious meals to local families. The funding is through the HCA Healthcare Foundation’s Healthier Tomorrow Fund, a community impact fund focused on addressing high priority community needs. Food Equality Initiative fights for nutrition security and health equity for all. Their objective is to increase access to nourishing food as medicine for those facing food insecurity and chronic medical conditions. #WeShowUp #HCACares

    Barbara Vosh has a lot to be thankful for this holiday season. The Graceland University nursing professor was as in the middle of a routine day lecturing to nursing students when she experienced sweating, vomiting and severe chest pain. Leaving the classroom to address her symptoms, Barbara sat by an elevator where her co-worker found her and called for help. EMS and paramedics arrived nine minutes after the call and attached a heart monitor machine to Barbara, which indicated she was experiencing a heart attack. Paramedics transported Barbara to Centerpoint Medical Center - a part of HCA Midwest Health - where she was diagnosed with a blocked right coronary artery. After a procedure to stabilize her, Barbara was moved to the ICU unit, where she stayed overnight. “I share my story with friends, family, students and even strangers,” she said. “Seeking medical attention and immediately calling 9-1-1 is critical, as it could have been a different scenario for me had I waited longer to go to the hospital.” This month, Barbara was reunited with her care team: https://bit.ly/3V95ACv.     The Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship is open to dependents of HCA Healthcare colleagues who are pursuing post-secondary education. Ashley Morsbach is a sophomore at Fort Hays State University, and the daughter of Jill Morsbach, RN and assistant professor at Research College of Nursing - a part of HCA Midwest Health. “When I received the email from the HCA Foundation, I was figuring out how I was going to pay for my tuition next year. I am so thankful for this scholarship and the wonderful people who make it happen!” #CareLikeFamily
