Earlier this year, Rita Corbert was complaining of stomach pain. When the pain became too great, she was brought to the HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital ER, where they treated her pain and kept her overnight. The next day, she was told that she would need to have emergency surgery. There was no time to prepare – it had to happen immediately. Mrs. Corbert needed a colostomy bag. Still, despite the serious health challenges she faced, Mrs. Corbert recounts her visit to the hospital with fondness. "I got the most incredible care you could receive," she says. "The hospital staff took care of me physically as well as emotionally. They took care of my family." "The emergency room people were incredible," says her husband, Richard Corbert. Thanks to our doctors, nursing, and physical therapy team at HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital, today, Mrs. Corbert enjoys an active, healthy life. #CareLikeFamily #HealthcareHeroes

For Melissa German, RN, a nurse at HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital, the hospital holds a very special place in her heart. It’s where she gave birth to her two children and where her daughter recently delivered her son. “When my daughter was delivering, it was a challenge to be a mom and not a nurse, but I knew she was in good hands,” she recalls. Ironically, it was Melissa’s Labor & Delivery nurses who inspired her to consider nursing. “The way they listened and connected with me, that’s how I treat my patients. That’s what keeps me going, knowing that I’m helping people in the time they need it the most.” #HealthcareHeroes #CareLikeFamily

Today, and every day, we remember the lives we lost on Sept. 11, 2001, their families and the survivors who witnessed it all. Alongside our HCA Healthcare family, we pause to honor the brave actions of our first responders and everyday citizens who selflessly and courageously fought back. We remember, always. #NeverForget #PatriotDay

This week, our HCA West Florida Division Educator Sherri Killam helped conduct a neonatal resuscitation drill (NRP) for members of our hospital team, including those in the Emergency Room, Respiratory Therapy, and in Labor & Delivery. These drills are conducted quarterly using maternal/pediatric situations as these are low frequency but high risk situations in our ER. We review possible complications during labor, post labor, as well as with newborns. Participants open the pediatric crash cart and familiarize themselves with all the equipment. They also participated in a scenario responding to a baby in respiratory distress after delivery. We conduct these drills because safety is our top priority here at HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital. Our continued focus on patient safety earned us a top 10% in the nation ranking for patient safety from Healthgrades. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gQ_nAFTa #HealthcareHeroes #HCACares

Laura Atwell, RN highlights the culture of open communication and proactive engagement with senior leadership at HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital. Through regular town halls and departmental rounds, staff are empowered to provide feedback and see tangible changes implemented. "One of the ways we're heard here is by our senior leadership making their rounds," she said. "They do town halls quarterly, and they come around to all of the different departments in the hospital. They ask if there's anything that needs to be adjusted or addressed." #CareLikeFamily #Positive Impact
