Allison Camacho-Travieso, nurse manager of 5 Carroll, has deep ties to Mercy—both personally and professionally. After her mother’s prayers for a child were answered, Allison was born, later calling Mercy her home in more ways than one. She earned her LPN and RN degrees at Mercy’s School of Nursing and she’s been working at Mercy for soon-to-be 15 years. Her three children were also born at Mercy, making it a true family legacy. Recently, Allison’s journey came full circle as she cared for her mother in her final days. “Mercy is a special place. We have maintained that feeling of family and it’s reflected in the care we provide our patients,” she shares. Allison, we are grateful for your dedication. Your Mercy family is lucky to have you, and we know your mother is smiling down with pride. ?? Celebrating 75 years of caring like family. #Mercy75 #CareLikeFamily #FeelGoodFridays

No one likes to talk about colorectal cancer. But if you’re 45 or older, experts recommend that you get regular screenings. Start with these screening guidelines from Sarah Cannon, the Cancer Institute of HCA Healthcare – our larger health network. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the United States (excluding skin cancers), according to the American Cancer Society. In its early stages, colorectal cancer often has no symptoms – that’s why screening is so important. Talk to your doctor about which screening test is right for you. A Routine Dental Visit Led to a Life-Saving Discovery During a routine dental checkup, Maria Rubio’s dental hygienist spotted a mass under her tongue and immediately referred her to a dentist. Dr Kellesarian had a high suspicion that this was a cancer and referred her right away to Dr Neel Patel, a board certified Head and Neck Surgeon at HCA Florida Mercy Hospital. With an immediate biopsy that confirmed squamous cell carcinoma (oral cancer) involving her tongue, floor of mouth, and her mandible/jaw, Dr Patel performed surgery on her tongue, floor of mouth, and mandible/jaw to remove the cancer, he performed neck surgery to remove the lymph nodes in her neck that could be affected by the cancer, he performed microvascular free flap reconstruction with her leg bone and soft tissue, to restore the affected area, and also performed a flap from her chest to aid in the wound healing and closure. Postoperatively she has been receiving HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) and is healing well. Her daughter, Christie, shared: “Dr. Patel was always there for us. The wound care nurses and hyperbarics team, headed by manager, Juan Cabrera (pictured), became like family. My mom is super special—now everyone knows it!” Learn more about our Hyperbaric & Wound Care Center at https://bit.ly/3R2UDjL Learn more about Dr. Neel Patel's practice at HCA Florida Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery by visiting https://lnkd.in/erYSncnV #MercyMissionMomentMonday #Mercy75
