Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC also reports that most people with lung cancer don’t have symptoms until later stages of the disease. But there’s good news: Regular screenings can find lung cancer early, when it’s most treatable. At 40 years old, Scott Knight started experiencing blurry vision and balance issues while at work. His coworker drove him home and when his wife saw him, she immediately knew something wasn't quite right - turns out, Scott had experienced a stroke. After almost 2 weeks of inpatient rehabilitation at HCA Florida Largo West Hospital, Scott regained his strength to walk and is back to work again. Now more than ever, Scott has a passion for educating his coworkers, friends and family about the signs and symptoms of a stroke. Today, ahead of tomorrow's 2024 American Heart Association's Tampa Bay Heart Walk, WFLA News Channel 8 and Bloom spoke with Scott to hear his survival story and help raise awareness about strokes. ??HCA Florida Largo Hospital is reopening its main campus Emergency Department today. The ED had been closed for repairs after Hurricane Milton. The hospital now again provides 24/7 emergency services in the main emergency department at 201 14th Street South West in Largo. The hospital closed on October 10, 2024 following flash flooding from Hurricane Milton. In collaboration with the State of Florida, the hospital opened a temporary mobile medical unit on its campus to continue providing emergency services as the community recovered from back to back hurricanes. Patients are now being seen in the regular Emergency Department at the hospital main campus. Inpatient services remain closed until early December while repairs are made to other parts of the building. Until that time, emergency patients needing inpatient services will be transferred for inpatient care. Other area HCA Florida Healthcare hospitals continue to provide needed services to the community and are temporarily housing Largo Hospital specialty programs, including transplant programs for heart, liver, and kidney, until the hospital fully reopens. #HCAFloridaFamily

On this Veterans Day, we join our HCA Healthcare family in honoring the contributions and commitment of those who selflessly served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Each veteran makes a positive impact in our communities through their service in and outside of the hospital. HCA Healthcare is proud to have thousands of military colleagues, having hired more than 60,000 veterans, active duty personnel and military spouses since 2012. Today, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who have honorably served and their family members. Our military colleagues truly exemplify our mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. #HCAVeterans #VeteransDay
