Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC also reports that most people with lung cancer don’t have symptoms until later stages of the disease. Kayley enlisted straight out of high school, heading to Great Lakes, IL, where her journey in the Navy began. As an Aviation Structural Engineer, she specialized in maintenance for the F/A-18 aircraft, ensuring our fleet was ready for action. Her service has taken her around the world, with memorable experiences in diverse locations including Singapore, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Australia, Hawaii, and Guam. ?? Honoring Our Veteran Employee: Dr. Kevin Bryan ?? Today, we celebrate the incredible journey of Dr. Kevin Bryan, a dedicated veteran who served in the Air Force for 25 years. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Aerospace Engineering, he was entrusted with overseeing various acquisition programs, including the procurement of F-16 fighter aircraft, crash survivable flight data recorders, and cutting-edge avionic equipment capable of interfacing with orbiting satellites. However, after volunteering with children during college and early in his Air Force career, Dr. Bryan decided to switch career paths. The Air Force supported this transition by sending him to medical school, ultimately leading to a rewarding career as a pediatrician. He served in locations including Korea, Ohio, and the local area at both Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field. After an impressive 25 years of service, Dr. Bryan chose to retire and remain in the area, continuing his commitment to caring for children as a pediatrician. ?? Honoring Our Veteran Employee: Joe Tarro ?? Today, we're proud to spotlight Joe Tarro, whose impressive military career spanned 27 years as an Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician. Commonly known as the "bomb squad," EOD specialists like Joe play a crucial role in safely locating, identifying, disarming, and disposing of explosive and hazardous materials to ensure public safety. Throughout his career, Joe collaborated with all four military branches, the FBI, Secret Service, and various law enforcement agencies. Eager for a challenge beyond clerical work, he found his calling in EOD, appreciating both its complexity and the value it provided. After retiring from the Air Force, Joe sought a new path and pursued his interest in the medical field, which was spurred by extensive medical training during his EOD tenure. He went on to nursing school and spent much of his nursing career in ER and trauma settings. Today, Joe contributes invaluable research on new healthcare products at Fort Walton-Destin and Twin Cities hospitals as part of HealthTrust.
