Michael Barrett couldn’t remember a time in recent years without knee pain. As a youth football coach for over 15 years with the Port Charlotte Bandits, he’d often leave a Sunday gameday barely able to walk. Today is National Registered Dietitian Day! Dietitians play a vital role in improving the nutrition status of patients in both clinical (hospital) and outpatient settings. Amanda Nedd, a Registered Dietitian, has been with HCA Healthcare for the past five years. She started as a Clinical Dietitian, but recently transferred to an outpatient setting, now working as an Outpatient Dietitian/Bariatric Program Dietitian. “Being in an outpatient setting allows me to build a meaningful relationship with my patients," said Amanda. "I have more time with them which allows me to provide extensive personalized nutrition education. This, in turn, gives them the confidence they need to help meet their nutrition goals.” Amanda has a special interest in pre and post bariatric nutrition care as well as weight loss and management, but can treat patients with a variety of other conditions such as diabetes, chronic kidney disease or heart disease.
