We were so happy to bring back our annual Retail Trek for the first time since pausing during the pandemic. 18 of our members travelled to New York City to meet with industry leaders, and learn more about career opportunities in the Retail and Luxury Goods industry. A huge thank you to the teams at LVMH, Nike, Richemont, and PVH Corp. who hosted us and shared their insight. And thank you to our wonderful Community VPs Lindsey Barrison and Polina Skladneva, as well as their team of directors, who are responsible for the success of this trek. It was a fantastic way to kick off what promises to be an exciting semester, with many more Speaker events, Career panels, and Community socials to come!
Last week, I had the privilege of co-organizing the HBS Retail & Luxury Goods Club (RLGC) Trek to New York City—marking the first time this trek has returned since before COVID! Over the course of the weekend, 18 students passionate about retail and luxury came together—not just to learn from industry leaders, but also to build meaningful connections within the HBS retail community. The highlight of the trek? Gaining firsthand insights from some of the biggest names in retail: ?? LVMH – The importance of retail and functional experience from Gena Smith; with 75+ maisons, LVMH is a place where you can continuously evolve your career across brands and roles ?? Nike NYC HOI – The intersection of corporate and store strategy and an inside look at store operations, showcasing how innovation and consumer experience come together ??? Richemont – The influence of history and heritage on product design (e.g., Van Cleef & Arpels Lovebirds clips symbolizing togetherness in the 1940s) and the power of storytelling ?? PVH Corp. – The end-to-end design process and an insightful fireside chat with Donald Kohler and Zac Coughlin on topics like the future of PVH and when to make a career move (hint: when you’re no longer learning or growing!) A huge thank you to the trek team (Polina Skladneva Yamel Alonso SofÃa Corral) for making this a success, and to all the companies who welcomed us so generously #Retail #LuxuryGoods #HBS
