Genius Gourmet Inc. and Pearson's Candy Company have both licensed the SKIPPY brand name from the $11.9 billion in 2024 sales, Hormel Foods. SKIPPY is the second largest global peanut butter brand (only JIF owned by The J.M. Smucker Co. is larger). In 2013, when SKIPPY had $370 million in annual sales ($100 million of those sales were made outside the U.S.), Hormel Foods purchased it from Unilever for $700 million in cash. Today, Hormel Foods is doing a terrific job expanding the SKIPPY brand name to confectionery products. For example, see the below photos: 1. SKIPPY Genius Gourmet Inc. Protein Nut Roll 2. "Every Canadian edible cannabis chocolate company has lost money including my own," said Brad Churchill, Owner and CEO of Choklat and Phat420. Here's Brad's advice to those seeking to enter the Canadian edible cannabis chocolate industry: "Run away from it as far and as fast as you possibly can. If it weren't for my craft chocolate products and our new protein powders my business would be another bankrupt casualty. Worst business experience of my life and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. "Feel free to take a look at the financials of Indiva.?They are the largest cannabis edibles company in Canada. They did around $41.9 million in 2023 revenue.?Even with that kind of volume and the largest market share they still lost $4.9 million and have not yet made a dime of profit. "Cannabis customers are a very different demographic than what most people thought, and the Canadian government's over-regulation would utterly shock you. I've been through 4 years of hell and I'm literally living in a holiday trailer trying to rebuild my company. It has several million in assets with clear title, yet I can't borrow against it because no financial institution in Canada will loan money to a 'cannabis company,'?brutal. "Feel free to use my company name and personal name.?In fact, I would encourage it.?People in this industry won't speak out because they don't want to rock the boat and piss off the handful of gate keepers in each Canadian Province who determine what products retailers can offer their customers. I don't care and I'm happy to pull the curtain back if it prevents one more person from losing their shirt, it will be words well spoken. "I have been manufacturing and selling chocolate confections here in Alberta, Canada for 16 years and am very well known for making a world class product.?We launched into the Alberta cannabis market in 2020 through SNDL Inc. (Sundial Growers) and within 14 days were in 48% of the stores provincially.?In April the AGLC (Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis) changed the rules and required Licensed Producers such as us to have our own sales license and not use another cannabis company as a distributor.?As a result, AGLC buyers could no longer order our products.?We then spent the next 30-months and almost $20,000 being subject to the most probative due diligence process you could ever imagine. "In the end, we were approved to be able to sell, but by then it was too little too late, and even then, the buyers told us they would only offer the retailers one line of our chocolate bars, and none of our other 17 innovative products.?We were not given an opportunity to get back into the market in our own province of Alberta even with our successful sales history. This is only one example of the insanity that nobody talks about. "I must say.... it sure is refreshing to be back selling CPG to the end consumer and retail dealers.?Doing business with people who want to do business and without government intervention." #Choklat
