?? Celebrating National Historic Bridge Month by highlighting a local icon—the Walnut Street Bridge in Harrisburg, PA! Built in 1890, the Walnut Street Bridge is a true piece of history, officially recognized on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972. While the bridge was fully operational for over a century, the western span sadly collapsed after severe flooding in 1996. Today, however, the eastern span remains a vital pedestrian and bicycle link between downtown Harrisburg and City Island, connecting communities and offering beautiful views of the Susquehanna River. As a proud Central PA-based company, HB Engineering joins many of our colleagues in appreciating the heritage and lasting impact of this historic bridge.
