Achieving water quality and quantity objectives with practical, forward-thinking solutions that return lasting benefits.

关于我们

Since 1951, Hazen and Sawyer has focused on two things: providing safe drinking water and controlling water pollution. Our range of services encompasses the planning, design, and construction management of water and wastewater-related projects – from clean water treatment, storage, and distribution to wastewater and stormwater collection, treatment, and reuse. Our focus brings us exceptional challenges – such as the largest drinking water UV disinfection installation in the world, upgrade of major wastewater treatment plants to reduce nutrient discharges to sensitive receiving waters, and recharging vital drinking water aquifers with highly-treated wastewater effluent, renewing a valuable resource. Our focus also makes us home to many of the world’s most knowledgeable and experienced environmental engineers and scientists, each seeking a challenging and rewarding career while making an important contribution to the communities in which we work. Our expert process groups contribute to the latest research and determine how to apply the most effective and efficient technologies to engineer solutions to your challenges. Your goals are our goals, and we offer the insight and experience needed to achieve and exceed them. If you have a water engineering challenge, Hazen and Sawyer has your solution.

States like Florida and Virginia may not seem like they’re hurting for water at first glance. But a variety of water challenges—the depletion of aquifers, demands of population growth, changing effluent disposal regulations, saltwater intrusion, land subsidence, and more—are fueling the adoption of water recycling strategies even in traditionally wet regions across the country. Potable reuse approaches in particular have entered the spotlight over recent years. Learn more about potable reuse and see how these practices are helping utilities solve for a variety of challenges here: https://lnkd.in/gj7WwBth? #waterreuse #allthingswater

To see a sewer system consent decree terminated is rare, almost unheard of. Yet Alabama’s Jefferson County achieved this historic milestone in September 2024, when a federal judge released the county from the consent decree that had governed its sewer system for nearly 30 years. This settlement was the result of decades of investment in rebuilding infrastructure and rebuilding trust between the county and environmental advocates, both guided by a robust Collection System Asset Management Program. It is an inspirational example for other counties and cities under similar consent decrees across the country. Get the full story: https://lnkd.in/gJ6n3jrY #allthingswater

Customer satisfaction, brand perception, and trust among stakeholders are foundational for utilities and can make or break the success of new water initiatives and innovations. And they’re all hugely influenced by one simple yet sometimes overlooked principle—effective communication. See how Hazen helped Rancho Water gauge potential community support as part of a potable reuse feasibility study and how the research outcomes helped map a strategic path forward for the organization: https://lnkd.in/gfWDCTGE #waterreuse #allthingswater

? A Hazen-led pilot helped Los Angeles County’s Water Replenishment District roughly double how long the reverse osmosis (RO) membranes at one of its desalters could operate before they required cleaning. ?? The pilot also helped boost the RO water recovery rate at the desalter from about 70% (which is typical for the facility) to 85%. These improvements were achieved by using nanofiltration as pretreatment before RO—an unconventional setup that could prove useful for improving RO efficiency while protecting valuable equipment. ?? Reverse osmosis (RO) is a prevalent water purification method that’s being rapidly adopted around the world. But it’s no secret that it can be a complex, energy-intensive, and expensive process. ? Could using machine learning and real-time data analysis help improve RO efficiency by tuning systems to be more dynamic? Is it possible to increase RO water recovery while conserving energy and protecting valuable equipment? ?? These are the questions that Hazen and the Orange County Water District have partnered to explore in a forward-looking pilot study. Learn how the team is testing the limits of water recovery here: https://lnkd.in/gRH5CDKj #allthingswater

?? A Hazen-led team found as part of a pioneering study that, while PFAS were present in municipal sludge that went into a gasification system, there were no PFAS in the dried solids that came out. This is one of multiple encouraging results that could point to much-needed solutions for an industry that’s continuing to navigate PFAS management. Here’s what you need to know about this landmark The Water Research Foundation (WRF)-funded project, with partners including Ecoremedy, LLC, faculty and students from Manhattan University and the University at Buffalo, and Mostardi Platt.
