We want to send a BIG congratulations to all of the graduates from our Community Leadership Initiative (CLI) Program!
The CLI program is designed to accelerate leaders’ ability to achieve educational and civic change that enhances the HPN’s community, providing participants with in-person seminars and project-based learning opportunities to advance advocacy work. Participants are tasked with identifying and filling gaps in their community. Throughout the seminars, participants are introduced to a set of tools, methods, and skills to support their ability to make progress on their projects and accelerate results for children and families. In particular, the program focuses on education and civic advocacy.
The participants collaborated on:
Majority United (M.U.)
Created a community collaborative that aims to strengthen the HUSD student relations landscape. Majority United’s objective is to increase student cultural relations by positively impacting the relationship between cultural clubs in the district fostering and encouraging community and student participation in all Black Student Union’s, promoting exposure to Historical Black Colleges and Universities, and supporting entrepreneurial engagement.
Women Community Empowerment Initiative (W.C.E.I.)
Created a drug education program for youth and their families that is scientifically accurate, interactive, and compassionate, prioritizing educating and empowering community members to make safe and healthy choices as it relates to illicit drug use and substance use prevention. WCEI expands resources from prevention, intervention, and recovery.
Living Intentionally for Education (L.I.F.E.)
Created a student ambassador program that will empower students to actively participate in decision-making, create a sense of ownership, and build a supportive community that reduces absenteeism. L.I.F.E.’s objective is to encourage students to participate in school governance and promote a positive school culture where students feel valued and heard. Student ambassadors will represent peers, working on various student-led initiatives that offer feedback to school staff and leadership.
