Executive Director | I advocate for BIPOC students by dismantling racial discrimination in schools through Title VI awareness, community empowerment, and systemic accountability.

Title VI is clear: Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs do not violate civil rights law. Schools can provide DEI training, teach about systemic racism, and address racial disparities. These efforts are about creating fair and inclusive schools—not discrimination. But Trump's Department of Education is twisting Title VI to justify eliminating DEI. This is a complete reversal of its own guidance, which states that DEI efforts do not create a "hostile environment" and are often necessary to prevent discrimination. This is not enforcement—it’s a distortion of Title VI. Schools that eliminate DEI programs under these attacks are not protecting civil rights; they are undermining them. ?? IF THESE ROLLBACKS RESULT IN DISCRIMINATION OR A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT, THEY MAY BE VIOLATING TITLE VI. (sorry for yelling. I love you ??) If your district is backing away from equity programs under the false claim that Title VI requires it, push back! The law is on our side. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) guidance on this issue is attached below as a resource. Use it to hold your schools and districts accountable. #TitleVI #EducationEquity #CivilRights #DEI #SaveYourSix

The Trump administration’s executive orders related to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and transgender people severely limit civil rights organizations’ abilities to provide critical social and health services such as fair housing, affordable credit, and job opportunities. We've joined the National Urban League in a lawsuit to overturn these orders, which reverse decades of civil rights progress and pose an existential threat to organizations that protect civil rights and provide shelter, services, and support to those in need. We are grateful to be represented by the Legal Defense Fund, Lambda Legal, and NFHA’s attorneys. “‘Out of Many, One’ is our national motto – any effort to divide, stoke fear and treat people unfairly is not in line with our nation’s founding principles. America is best when united and relentlessly pursuing a country where everyone, regardless of their background, has a fair chance at reaching the American Dream,” said Lisa Rice, NFHA President & CEO. The urgency for equity in education has never been greater, yet many efforts struggle to create deep, lasting change in schools and the systems that shape them. Public education did not create the inequities we see today—and schools alone cannot solve them. Transforming outcomes for students requires leaders across education, health, housing, juvenile justice, and other intersecting fields to work collectively to dismantle the systems that perpetuate injustice. Since 2017, Seeding Disruption has been equipping senior leaders in Washington, DC already working in these systems with the community, skills, and strategies to lead boldly for equity. The results speak volumes—not just in individual growth, but in the ripple effects across organizations and policies that impact students and families. Why do some equity initiatives lead to systemic transformation while others fall short? Bellwether’s newly released report uncovers a critical truth: sustained, local-level movement-building is key to dismantling inequitable structures and driving lasting change. But what does this look like in practice? Join us for a LinkedIn Live conversation featuring Bellwether researchers, Seeding Disruption’s founders and alumni driving equity efforts across education and intersecting sectors, and a funder who has supported Seeding Disruption in D.C. and now invests in education innovation nationwide. We’ll explore: ? Why this work matters now—and what’s at stake in the current climate ? Insights from Bellwether’s latest report on advancing equity ? Stories from the field—how Seeding Disruption Fellows are making an impact today ? The future of Seeding Disruption—scaling this work to more communities ????Join us live and be part of the movement. Bring your questions. Bring your vision. Let’s build a more just future—together.

For Arizona to thrive, we must ensure housing stability isn’t a privilege reserved for those who can afford lawyers. Limited-scope legal assistance from community justice workers, like Housing Stability Legal Advocates with Hayes Resource Group, LLC and Gervonni Cares, Inc., proves that community-driven solutions work—but only if we fund them. #evictioncrisis #HSLA #accesstojustice #fundingrequest #MyBrandIsAdvocacy

Civil rights protections should not be optional. As an education equity advocate for Black and Brown families, I have witnessed firsthand how systemic racism and discrimination impact students in classrooms, discipline policies, and access to equitable education. Families turn to the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) seeking justice when their children’s rights are violated—and now we are witnessing the authority to truly investigate and enforce civil rights protections being stripped away. #CivilRightsNow When schools fail our children, OCR should be equipped to hold them accountable. But without adequate support, discriminatory policies continue unchecked, and families are left without recourse. Civil rights laws mean nothing if they are not enforced. #EducationEquity My work advocating for students ensures that families understand their rights, push for policy change, and demand action. But this fight cannot be won alone. OCR needs enforcement power to fulfill its commitment to protecting every student. #ProtectOurStudents We must demand accountability, stronger civil rights protections, and real consequences for discrimination in schools. Our children deserve better. #MyBrandIsAdvocacy U.S. Department of Justice U.S. Department of Education NAACP
