March 22nd marks World Water Day, a day that highlights the importance of freshwater and advocates for sustainable management of this valuable resource. At Hatton Plantations PLC, we understand the significance of water in our daily operations and its plays a critical role in the tea industry. As an RPC, we have always been committed to promoting responsible water use and conservation practices. On this occasion of World Water Day, we would like to take this opportunity to share with you the impact that our tea plantation has on water resources. Our tea plantation is situated in the Hatton & Lindula region which is known for its scarcity of water. However, through the implementation of various sustainable practices, we have been able to reduce our water usage significantly. Our irrigation system is designed to minimize water wastage, and we also regularly monitor and maintain our water sources to ensure their sustainability. Moreover, our tea bushes are grown in a manner that promotes water retention in the soil, reducing the need for excessive irrigation. This not only conserves water but also helps to maintain the natural balance of the ecosystem. Apart from our efforts to conserve water, we also actively engage with the local community to raise awareness about water conservation and its importance. We believe that it is our responsibility to not only protect the environment but also to educate and empower others to make it as practice. On this World Water Day, we invite you to join us in celebrating the impact that our tea plantation has on water resources. We are proud to say that our efforts have not only benefits our company but also the environment and the community around us. We hope that together, we can contribute towards a better future for our planet. If you put water in a cup, it becomes a cup, if you put water in a teapot, it becomes a teapot. Just be like a water, adopt to any situations in life. Happy international water’s day. Let’s ensure every drop counts for the next generation. #worldwaterday #G&G #ceylontea #sustainability

Sri Lankan Women contribute majorly to Sri Lanka's apparel & Tea industries. Especially In tea plantations, tea plucking, and weeding are dominated by females. In Sri Lanka, efforts towards women empowerment in the tea plantation sector have been made through various initiatives. These include providing education and skills training for women workers, promoting women's participation in leadership roles within tea estates, advocating for gender equality policies, and ensuring fair wages and working conditions for women workers. Additionally, organizations and government agencies often collaborate to address specific challenges faced by women in the tea industry, such as access to healthcare and childcare services. Overall, these efforts aim to improve the socio-economic status and well-being of women working in tea plantations in Sri Lanka. “Our country was built by strong women, and we will continue to break down barriers and walls and defy stereotypes. We cannot all succeed when women are held back. Women are like teabags. We don’t know their true strength until they are in hot water.” Hatton Plantations being the pioneer Tea Plantation company in Sri Lanka, premiered women's empowerment by grooming female cadres other than the tea pluckers in the Sri Lankan tea plantation history. The company is pioneering in introducing female harvesting team leaders for all the 14 tea estates of Hatton Plantations located in the Central Highlands as part of the Women empowerment strategy. With the introduction of this innovative strategy, the new female harvesting team leaders were streamlined as supervisors of female tea pluckers of Hatton Plantation PLC. The most alluring thing a woman can have is confidence as they are the real architects of society.?We offer our gratitude to all the mothers, sisters, and daughters, for a wonderful women’s day. #womenempowerment #womensday2024

This initiative benefits the local tea-harvesting community as it eliminates the differences in the manual weighing apparatus used in the tea weighing system in the fields before the green leaves were transported to the appropriate processing facilities.
