Our next #HatchBuildsProjects feature highlights the Cerro Matoso Smelter Expansion Project. From 1998 to 2001, we partnered with BHP Billiton Ltd to double Cerro Matoso's nickel production to 50,000 tons per year. We designed the world's largest ferronickel furnace and implemented cutting-edge technologies for dust recycling and slag disposal. Located in Montelibano, Colombia, Cerro Matoso is vital to the local community. Our innovative approach ensured no disruption to production while meeting World Bank emission standards. Completed on time and on budget, this project showcases our commitment to excellence and innovation: https://lnkd.in/gWyhS_pQ? #SignatureProjects #EngineeringExcellence #Innovation

Australia’s coastal regions face a mounting threat of rising sea levels. With over 85% of Australians living within 50 km of the coast, the financial toll could drown both communities and budgets.??? ?? While the risks are well-documented, Australia’s approach often prioritizes reactive measures by rebuilding after disasters instead of proactively mitigating risks. This strategy, though politically expedient, often leads to escalating costs with diminishing returns.??? ?? A sustainable future for Australia’s coastline requires a shift from reactive recovery to proactive resilience.?By investing early into sound adaptation planning there is the opportunity to significantly curb the nation’s soaring disaster toll.??? ?? Discover how we are developing the South Australia Coastal Adaptation Guidelines in partnership with state and local government to build resilience for Australia's tomorrow.?? ?? Aligning mining organizations with zero-carbon transport may be a straightforward solution, but is it sustainable?? Despite the potential of recycled metals, the rapid increase in EV production means that nickel, copper, and steel will remain crucial for at least the next decade. EV batteries, especially those designed for longer ranges, require significant amounts of nickel, while copper, preferred for its conductivity and safety, will see a double-digit annual growth in demand.? Ricardo Monte Alto, Senior Principal at Hatch, shares his insights in the World Economic Forum article "Metals for Mobility: How Mining Can Meet Electric Vehicle Demand and Support the Energy Transition.” Read: https://lnkd.in/dkphfrey #HATCHfeatured #Advisory #Metals #WEF #ElectricVehicles #Batteries
