关于我们
As Jonathan Thai and Michael Yim, the co-founders of Hatch Duo navigated through the streets of the San Francisco Bay Area, inspiration struck at a time when they craved to “pave their own path.” It was through this phrase that they decided to use their creativity and passion to begin crafting Aggregate Watches. Little did they know, these watches would be the fuel to eventually launch their own design firm… In the bigger picture, Hatch Duo’s competitive edge is to provide renowned “Silicon Valley quality” design for realistic and attainable pricing. Products are no longer just “objects” people use. More recently, the evolution of products has become a more holistic experience: anything from brand packaging, to user experience, and even how customers shop for products. We strive to be the ones to find ways to integrate everything that makes a brand memorable, into one experience, embodied in a product. Not only do we want to help deliver tremendous value to entrepreneurs and early-stage startups, but we aspire to be accessible through a fluid process that is precision-tailored to the startups’ needs and objectives. We design product experiences through strategic industrial design and product engineering. We collaborate with our clients to cultivate their innovations from one simple idea all the way to market launch. We don't just design your products, we assess the needs of your business, your target market, and strategically design and position your brand for success. We like to think of ourselves as nurturers to your early-stage product ideas. We manage the process and strategize on how to get from the ideas in your head to the shelves at the store.

Translating brain activity into human understanding is no small task—especially when the subject has four legs and a wagging tail. When Hatch Duo partnered with DigitSense to develop DOuG, we knew that comfort and usability had to be at the forefront of the design. Dogs don’t have the luxury of adjusting a headset or repositioning sensors for better accuracy, which meant we had to get it right from the start. Our team conducted extensive EEG research to pinpoint the optimal sensor placement for reliable readings while ensuring a comfortable fit that dogs wouldn’t resist. After rounds of testing on various breeds, we refined the device with adjustable straps, soft materials, and a lightweight form to make it as natural as possible for the dog to wear. The result? A product that seamlessly captures a dog’s emotional state while remaining intuitive for pet owners to use. Great design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about creating solutions that feel effortless for both the user and, in this case, the pet. AI-assisted design tools are evolving fast, and Vizcom’s Palettes feature is a prime example of how AI can enhance creativity instead of replacing it. In our latest video, our Partner and Design Director, Blake Johnson, dives into how Palettes can allow designers to create custom designs tailored to their unique style. Instead of starting from scratch every time, Palettes learns from your work, making the design process faster and more intuitive. Marty Neumeier once said, "Brands live in people’s minds." That sentiment extends beyond branding into product design itself—because the most successful products aren’t just seen, they’re felt. At Hatch Duo, we don’t just design products—we shape perception, crafting physical experiences that spark emotional connections. 1. Customer-Centric Development Neumeier reminds us, "Your customers are running your company." The best designs aren’t created in isolation; they emerge from a continuous feedback loop between users, brand, and market demands. That’s why we focus on listening and iterating—ensuring every design decision isn’t just visually striking but also meaningful to the people who use it. 2. Authenticity Through Consistency "You’ve told everyone that you’re ‘this’ but really you’re ‘that.’" Consistency isn’t just about a product looking on-brand—it’s about feeling like an extension of the brand itself. At Hatch Duo, we embed a brand’s DNA into the design process so that the final product isn’t just an object—it’s an experience that reinforces trust and loyalty. 3. The Power of ‘Only-ness’ Being different isn’t enough. A product needs a reason to exist, something that makes it irreplaceable in the market. At Hatch Duo, we don’t chase differentiation for the sake of it—we design products that revolutionize/own their space. The goal? Make competitors irrelevant by defining a category, not just competing in one. 4. Innovation is Intentional Innovation isn’t luck—it’s a mindset. The most impactful products challenge assumptions, question the expected, and introduce something the world didn’t even know it needed. Great design pushes boundaries in materials, usability, and form, taking calculated risks that lead to market-defining products. Bridging Strategy and Execution Design is more than making something look good—it shapes a product that: ? Aligns with the brand’s story ? Creates deep user engagement ? Feels uniquely necessary At Hatch Duo, we merge strategy, engineering, and design to turn ideas into meaningful, tangible products. Because at the end of the day, the best products don’t just exist—they belong in people’s lives. A Cheat Sheet for Anyone Working on Physical Products Why do some products stand out while others get lost in the sea of sameness? It’s not just about function—it’s about how a product looks, feels, and communicates its purpose. Many functional products fail to make an impact—not because they don’t work, but because they lack the aesthetic refinement that makes them memorable. That’s the difference between: ? Products that win awards and build strong brand recognition ? And those that fade into the background A while back, I came across a great UI/UX resource on LinkedIn that distilled key design principles into a simple, digestible format. I didn’t get a chance to save it or credit the person who posted it, but it stuck with me—so if you’re reading this, thank you! It made me think—there are books that teach concepts like "form follows function" in industrial design, but where’s the quick, one-page guide on how to actually make something aesthetically pleasing/elegant? Something easy to reference, something you can keep in your workflow without flipping through hundreds of pages. So, I put together "Elegance Formula: Two Dozen Principles for Industrial Design"—a concise, one-page cheat sheet that captures the high-level aesthetic principles we’ve been working with at Hatch Duo for years. This isn’t just for industrial designers. If you’re a product manager, mechanical engineer, or anyone working on physical product experiences, this is for you. Good aesthetics don’t just “happen” after function is solved—they have to be designed deliberately. ? Struggling to make a product look unique while keeping it simple? ? Need to balance materials, color, and form language? ? Want to make sure your product doesn’t just work—but looks intentional and refined? We recently added this to our internal playbook at Hatch, but it’s about time we shared it with the community. Attached is the full guide—use it, apply it, and let’s push product design forward together. If you find this helpful, I’ll be digging into each of these principles in future posts—so stay tuned. Also, if you'd like to purchase this poster for your own studio, the link is in the comments! What’s the hardest part about making a product look great? Drop a comment below—I’d love to hear your thoughts. ------------------------ ??
