?? Panel at the 2025 National Humanities Conference in Arlington, VA! ?? HASS-RLN co-chairs and members Shelome Gooden, Christine Mallinson, Mimia Cynthia Logsdon, Aimee Kendall Roundtree, and Deborah Thomas just wrapped up our panel, “Advocating for Humanities Research on College and University Campuses.” From innovative funding models to creative ways of elevating and celebrating humanities on our campuses, the conversation was rich with ideas and strategies — and demonstrated the important role of University research offices as partners in helping support and shape the future of humanities research. ??????? #HumanitiesMatter #ResearchAdvocacy #NationalHumanitiesConference #HASSRLN #HigherEd #HumanitiesResearch https://lnkd.in/ebivEM3k

HASS-RLN leaders got to experience how research and creative activities are very much centered in the wider Pittsburgh community. We visited the Mattress Factory, stopped at Randyland to take in the vibrancy of color and art, paused at one of the original Carnegie Libraries on our way to the historic Deutschtown neighborhood on Pittsburgh's Northside. HASS-RLN leaders engaged with researchers, places and spaces across Pitt campus. We listened, talked, learned and yes rolled up our sleeves.?Colleagues at the University Library and Center for Creativity shared rare collections and taught us how to use a Columbian printing press. HASS-RLN’s September visit to University of Pittsburgh was featured in the October Pitt Research newsletter. https://lnkd.in/ecijg6fz Reflecting in this season of Thanksgiving, Christine Mallinson and I are thankful for our leadership colleagues across the country. It’s exactly the kind of collaborative spirit that drives our mission and that we will draw on as we advance support for HASS faculty research and creative activities. ? Stay tuned for some ‘behind the scenes’ snapshots of the Pitt visit. #HASSRLN #AcademicResearch

Last year, Shelome Gooden University of Pittsburgh and I launched the Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences Research Leaders Network (HASS-RLN)– a group of about 25 senior research leaders from universities across the U.S. with expertise in the humanities, arts, and social sciences. After a year of meeting virtually, we are here in person on the beautiful campus of the University of Pittsburgh! For two and a half days we’ll be conferencing and reconnecting with each other to share best practices, ideas, and strategies for advancing research and creative activity in HASS. We will bring these insights back to our home institutions, where we each are working to strengthen and expand research and creative activity, and amplifying the humanities, arts, and social sciences as central components of the University research ecosystem. #HASSRLN
