Strengthening Nutrition Policy in Nigeria ?? Nigeria is setting a global precedent! The government is introducing biofortified maize guidelines to standardize vitamin A maize classification and improve food security. Dr. Yusuff Fou’ad of HarvestPlus highlighted a key challenge: Without clear standards, consumers are at risk of buying regular yellow maize mislabeled as vitamin A maize. ?? With this new policy: ?? Farmers get access to high-yielding, nutrient-rich varieties ?? Consumers benefit from genuinely biofortified maize ?? Agricultural research and commercialization align with national nutrition goals ?? What other crops should Nigeria prioritize for biofortification? Let’s discuss! ?? #AgricultureInnovation #FoodForTheFuture #VitaminAMaize, Dr. Yusuf Dollah Fou'ad, Propcom+ Read more: https://lnkd.in/gCgQ7Vau

Improving nutrition and public health by developing and disseminating nutrient-rich staple food crops.
关于我们
The HarvestPlus mission is to improve nutrition and public health by developing and promoting biofortified food crops that are rich in vitamins and minerals, and providing global leadership on biofortification evidence and technology. HarvestPlus works across CGIAR as part of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). HarvestPlus and its partners develop new, more nutritious varieties of staple food crops that provide higher amounts of vitamin A, iron, or zinc, the three micronutrients identified by the World Health Organization as most lacking in diets globally. This process is known as biofortification. By 2030, we anticipate that 1 billion people will be benefiting from biofortified nutritious foods.
