A new interdisciplinary concentration in climate change and planetary health is now available to Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health students. With this new training, students will not only better understand the health impacts of climate change, but will be prepared to advance climate solutions that protect health and health equity. https://lnkd.in/eMMtUUUt “It is clear that the impacts of harming our planet and climate change are among the greatest public health threats we face. Creating a concentration in climate change and planetary health is an important marker at the School to recognize the fact that this isn’t only an engineering or an entrepreneurial or technological issue, but that health really needs to be at the middle of this conversation,” said?our director of education and policy Gaurab Basu. Basu co-directs the new concentration along with?Christopher Golden, associate professor of nutrition and planetary health at Harvard Chan School.

New in Nature Medicine: "Last year, Harvard Medical School voted to approve a climate curriculum theme, becoming one of the first universities in which this topic will be embedded into all four years of its regular clinical curriculum.." “We are walking through all of the curriculum and ensuring that there’s a climate framework in every class,” says Gaurab Basu of Harvard Medical School and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in the article. “When they talk about asthma, for example, we make sure we’re talking about air pollution. Extreme heat driven by climate change has become a major public health threat. Gaurab Basu tells Inside Climate News that air conditioners for his patients' home are no longer a luxury, “But for far too many, especially renters, home can be where heat is very dangerous because of the lack of cooling devices.” he adds, “We need new laws and regulations that recognize these health threats and help our communities find safety from dangerous heat in their homes.” Read more here: https://ow.ly/rqXv50STn0n
