关于我们

The Harvard Legal Aid Bureau provides free legal services to low-income people in civil (non-criminal) matters in order to ensure equal access to justice and to remove legal barriers to economic opportunity. We specialize in four major areas of practice: housing, family, government benefits, and wage and hour law. The help we offer ranges from referrals to full case representation, depending on client need and available resources. The Bureau is an entirely student-run non-profit law firm currently composed of approximately 40 second and third year Harvard Law School students who provide free civil legal services to a diverse population of low-income clients in the Greater Boston area. As the nation’s oldest student legal services organization, the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau aspires to be an engine for progressive change and social justice. Photo by Emma Raviv

  • A huge congratulations to 3L Louis Lin for receiving the 2025 Skadden Fellowship! Next year, Louis will be in Pennsylvania, working at Philadelphia Legal Assistance to address displacement in Philadelphia’s low-income Asian American communities by providing comprehensive direct representation to tenants facing evictions and engaging in systemic advocacy to expand tenant protections and advance language access for AAPI and immigrant residents. Reflecting on his time at HLAB, Louis notes, "Joining the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau has been my best decision at HLS. The two-year commitment to HLAB not only allowed me to gain substantial experience in legal services and build strong relationships with clients but also provided me a home of other like-minded students and clinical instructors." The Harvard Legal Aid Bureau has elected Andrew Garcia ‘26 to serve as president. Attending Harvard Law after a decade of grassroots advocacy, Garcia has been clear in his vision for HLAB. “I have the privilege of working with really thoughtful, brilliant people in HLAB. We’re constantly figuring out how we can be better lawyers for our clients. Our community partnerships are a key part of our practice I want to see grow.” The Connecticut native became a community organizer after graduating from New York University. He believes HLAB’s 112th year of service to the Greater Boston area will be its best one yet. Andrew will be serving alongside eleven other board members who will work together to further develop HLAB’s practice this year.
