"Given the outsized role that credentials and connections play in the workplace, shrinking Black enrollment has repercussions beyond the classroom, said David Wilkins, a Harvard Law professor who has studied race in the legal profession.?'You’re also closing off the entry point to those important jobs where the people in them have transformed American society,' said Wilkins, who taught another famous Harvard Law grad — former first lady Michelle Obama — as a student." https://lnkd.in/ekuP9e3A

As a proud member of the legal profession, I am excited to have a conversation with Kenneth C. Frazier and my former law professor, David Wilkins, about the importance of our work as lawyers and our role in society. Shakespeare understood this when he had the villainous character Dick utter the now (in)famous phrase, "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers." Shakespeare understood that lawyers play a vital role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice prevails. Whether you agree with my interpretation of Shakespeare or not, I hope you'll register for tomorrow's webinar hosted by the Harvard Law School Center on the Legal Profession.
On February 26, Alston & Bird partner Cari Dawson will be speaking on a webinar hosted by the Harvard Law School Center on the Legal Profession titled, "Law, Leadership, and Legacy: The Impact of Harvard's Black Lawyers on the Legal Profession and the World." The conversation will also include Professor David B. Wilkins, Lester Kissel Professor of Law and faculty director of the Center on the Legal Profession at Harvard Law School, and Kenneth C. Frazier, former CEO and Chair of Merck and currently a fellow of the Harvard Corporation. This discussion will explore the state of Black lawyers in America. https://bit.ly/41o6jmP

KPMG continues to seek to launch a new legal services business under Arizona’s alternative business structure program. Many see this move as fostering direct competition with Big Law, but more likely, as noted by David Wilkins, director of the Harvard Law School Center on the Legal Profession, the work KPMG pursues -- like post-merger integration enabled by large scale investments in technology -- will largely complement, rather than displace, the work of traditional law firms. https://lnkd.in/gv8Ft_vs
