?? Corals on a Mission! ?? Two weeks ago, nearly 300 corals, including two endangered species, took flight across the Gulf of Mexico on a mission to save our oceans. From Florida’s coral nurseries to the Texas coast, these corals will now be part of groundbreaking research and genetic safekeeping for their populations. This collaboration between Nova Southeastern University, Texas State Aquarium, and HRI is helping safeguard coral biodiversity, with a focus on resilience in the face of climate change. It’s a step toward a brighter future for coral reefs and ocean health. Watch this new video to see the journey and read more at https://bit.ly/3TUB3I5!

For the Greater Gulf
关于我们
HRI is set apart from other marine research institutions by its use of the HRI Model, a unique interdisciplinary way of working that integrates our science with economic, policy and sociological expertise. While our solutions are science-driven, the challenges facing the Gulf of Mexico can't be solved by science working alone. HRI scientists are encouraged to think broadly and pursue partnerships to create lasting solutions.

Dr. Keisha Bahr and doctoral student Alex Good just wrapped up an incredible summer coral research voyage in Fiji! ?? As part of an expedition with the Sea Education Association, the team dove deep into the vibrant reefs for four weeks alongside university students from across the country, uncovering critical data to protect these underwater treasures and learning valuable coral fieldwork techniques. Every dive brought them closer to understanding the Fijian culture and how to preserve the beauty and biodiversity of our coral reefs, and oceans, for future generations. Join us in celebrating two of our past graduates on completion of their two-year NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Coastal Management Fellowships Lexie Neffinger, a graduate under HRI's Dr. Jennifer Pollack, did her fellowship with the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management to enhance local efforts addressing coastal flooding, erosion, and sea level rise, and was a member of the StormSmart Coasts Program. She will continue to work for this office developing guidance documents for environmental justice engagement in future grant programs. Jordana Cutajar, a graduate under HRI's Dr. Michael Wetz and NOAA Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystems scholar, worked with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control coastal program to pilot the state's first Resilience Hub in response to escalating climate impacts across the state. She recently secured funding from the Digital Coast Connects competition for future hub expansion and also transitioned into a full-time role for the program.
