Congrats to the teams at Hart McLaughlin & Eldridge, LLC & Action Injury Law Group, LLC for this outstanding result on behalf of Martina Standley. Andrew M. Stroth, Steven Hart, Carter Grant and John Marrese worked tirelessly on this case for years and were ready and eager to try the case before the City finally resolved it at the eleventh hour. This exemplifies a serious problem with how the City of Chicago evaluates its cases. The video of this incident gave the City decisionmakers all the information they needed: the City was at fault, Ms. Standley was seriously injured, and the case should be resolved. But instead of facing that reality, the City dragged the case out for years before coming to the table. That type of process benefits no one. The City should identify its problemed cases early on and target them for early resolution, which is not only the right thing to do for the victims, but would avoid the millions of taxpayer dollars the City wastes every year by delaying the inevitable.
Hart McLaughlin & Eldridge, LLC and Action Injury Law Group, LLC obtained a $3.25 million settlement for their client Martina Standley which was approved this week by the Chicago City Council. ? Martina Standley was 32 years old, and suffering a mental health crisis, when a Chicago police officer pulled up to a red light and Martina approached his vehicle. The officer turned his vehicle toward Martina and purposedly accelerated into her body. Martina’s leg was pinned under the vehicle, causing her to fall backward and smash her head on the pavement. Martina was knocked unconscious, bleeding from the head, with her leg crushed under the wheel of the CPD vehicle. Martina’s immediate injuries included a severe traumatic head injury and crush injury to her right leg. Tragically, Martina later passed away from related injuries. ? “Martina was an amazing person with a wonderful family.” HME Partner Carter Grant said. “The officer’s actions were utterly inexcusable and led to this tragic result. Hopefully, this settlement provides some semblance of closure for her family.” ? You can read more about this story here:
