Each month, all six of our offices are asked to participate in a 15-minute sketch challenge, celebrating the art of hand drawing and architectural expression. For February, our team took on Notre-Dame du Haut in Ronchamp, France, a masterpiece by Le Corbusier. This exercise is a reminder that great design starts with a pencil and a keen eye for proportion, form, and detail. We were so proud to be part of this project. Congratulations to St. Benedict Classical Academy, F.W. Madigan Company, Inc., The Vertex Companies LLC, and the incredible team that made this vision a reality!
Madigan was privileged to be the Construction Manager for the beautiful new Primary School for St. Benedict Classical Academy?at their new campus in Natick, MA.? This successful ground-up construction project opened its doors to young learners in the fall of 2024. The elementary school, featuring a seamless blend of traditional architecture and modern amenities, has quickly become a beacon of classical education and community engagement. This project was particularly distinctive, designed in traditional architecture, and Madigan is proud to have contributed to it. The building's exterior features Duration siding and custom trim, a Ludowici clay tile roof, a playground, and a comprehensive landscaping package. Inside, the school includes classrooms, faculty offices, a library, a grand entrance hall, and an assembly hall, all adorned with custom wood trim. The design emphasizes student flow and experience, with abundant natural light throughout.?? ?? A guiding principle for the school during this project was that "Architecture is the first teacher of the student." The dedication to quality and attention to detail in every aspect of the construction process reflects the commitment to creating an educational environment that is both functional and inspiring. The use of classical design elements pays homage to timeless architectural principles while integrating modern amenities to support a 21st-century learning experience.? ?? We worked closely with the school, Harrison Design Associates (designer),?The Vertex Companies LLC (owners rep), and our skilled?subcontractors to build this successful project, which was thoughtfully designed with future on-campus growth in mind.?? ?? Harrison Design's Joshua Greene and Logan Snyder attended the 2025 Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) Classical Architecture Intensive in New York, deepening their expertise in classical design. Through courses on field drawing, proportion, and the elements of classical architecture, they explored the Beaux-Arts method with hands-on practice in hand drafting, sketching, and architectural watercolor. The program culminated in a pavilion charrette and final project, showcasing their refined understanding of classical language and composition. Our sketch challenges bring out the unique creative styles of every one of our participating employees! Every month, Harrison Design offices nationwide take part in a 15-minute architectural sketch challenge focused on a significant architectural structure. This month, we're at 9 East Battery?in Charleston, South Carolina. Built by William Roper around 1838, this residence was the first on Charleston's East Battery and features a striking colonnade designed specifically to impress every ship entering Charleston harbor.
