Randy Jackson has been hitting the road for decades, beginning his career 42 years ago in the warehouse. Over the years, he’s seen firsthand how essential our Harris Teeter drivers are to delivering the highest quality products to customers and keeping shelves stocked. Randy takes pride in knowing he plays a part in supporting the mission of “Your Neighborhood Market.” “It makes me proud,” he says. “It takes a lot of people working together to make a store successful.” Reflecting on the biggest change he’s seen over the years, Randy notes the shift from paper maps to GPS systems and digital log books. Safety is a top priority for all Harris Teeter drivers, and they’re regularly tested on best practices. Randy takes this responsibility seriously and has several accolades including Harris Teeter Driver of the Year! “You’ve got to stay alert the whole time. Your head’s got to be on a swivel, checking your mirrors every three to five seconds,” Randy explains. “If I’m safe, and the other drivers are safe, that’s what matters most.”

For many longtime Harris Teeter associates, starting as baggers with friends was never intended to lead to a long-term career in retail. But for Billy Ford, Store Manager at the Island Center Harris Teeter in Isle of Palms, S.C., that’s exactly what happened when he started working at Harris Teeter in 1981. “It’s one of those things that just kept evolving,” Ford explains. “I thought I’d go on and do something else, but as I kept having success, I kept rolling with it. Harris Teeter has been very good to me.” Billy’s natural leadership abilities quickly propelled him up the ranks, eventually becoming a store director. He credits Harris Teeter for helping him grow into the leader he is today, and believes it’s a company that offers opportunities for anyone willing to put in the work. “If you’re committed and want to succeed at Harris Teeter, you absolutely can,” Ford said. “It’s all about what you put into it. If you want it, find a mentor, position yourself with that person, and let them help you grow. The opportunities are there—you just have to take advantage of them.”

Chris Crockett has been behind the wheel for Harris Teeter for over 41 years, starting his journey in our warehouse before hitting the open road. Driving has always been his passion. In fact, he even drove his own bus in high school! “I really enjoy what I do,” Chris says. “It’s about finding what you love, and driving is it for me. Growing up, I was always the one driving when my parents went on trips. It’s just something I’ve always wanted to do.” While out on the road, Chris prioritizes safety and tunes into gospel music to make the miles fly by. He describes himself as a “country boy” and loves the opportunity his job gives him to visit new places. With over four decades of experience under his belt, Chris has not only gained invaluable knowledge but has also been recognized with Harris Teeter's prestigious Driver of the Year award multiple times.?

After four decades at Harris Teeter, Teresa Hyatt knows exactly what makes her job so special: the customers and her fellow associates. “We’ve always been a family here, so we’re always there for each other—everyone has each other's back,” Hyatt said. She even jokes that on Mother’s Day, she celebrates with both her family at home and her "family" at the store. “I have one child at home, and then I have my children here, so I have to spend part of my day with them.” As a leader since day one, Teresa has been guiding teams and building strong relationships wherever she goes. She’s previously served as a Store Manager and is now the Customer Service Manager at the South College Marketplace Harris Teeter in Wilmington, N.C. Teresa believes in fostering a team where everyone is valued and respected, making not only the store better but her Wilmington community stronger. “Everybody’s got something they bring to the table,” she says, a philosophy that has helped her build a team with heart and soul.?

Join us as we honor their dedication to exceptional customer service and commitment to our community. This July, Phil Poe will celebrate an impressive 49-year career with Harris Teeter. Having done a little bit of everything, he currently works at Store 160, Morrocroft in Charlotte, N.C. For Phil, his ‘why’ is simple: it’s all about the customers. “The best part of my job is definitely the customers,” says Poe. Over nearly five decades, Phil has built countless relationships with his customers. In fact, it’s even one of his customers who introduced him to charity cycling rides, one of his hobbies and passion projects for the last 20 years. Phillip has embodied Harris Teeter’s purpose of enriching lives—not just through exceptional customer service, but also by giving back to the community. He’s participated in over 30 charitable rides since 2005, dozens of walks, traveled hundreds of miles for races and most importantly, raised thousands of dollars for various organizations, demonstrating his commitment to making his community a better place.?

This year, we’re celebrating 65 amazing years of serving our communities, and we’re excited to share a little bit about our history! It all started in 1936 when W.T. Harris borrowed $1,500 to open the very first Harris Food Store in Charlotte, N.C. He was ahead of his time, creating the first supermarket with air-conditioning and late-night hours! Meanwhile, over in Mooresville, NC, Willis L. Teeter and his brother Paul opened their first Teeter’s Food Mart. Fast forward to 1960, and the two stores merged to form Harris Teeter. Now, we’re over 250 stores strong, with 70+ fuel centers and 36,000 associates! And we’ve stayed true to our roots: high-quality products, an incredible shopping experience and superior customer service. As we celebrate 65 years, we’re also honoring the incredible associates who’ve helped make Harris Teeter what it is today.
