National Adoption Awareness Month November is National Adoption Awareness Month, and our Heart Gallery of Houston program focuses on finding forever families for children who are legally available for adoption. With the heartbreaking statistic that only 1% of these children are adopted before aging out of the system, the Heart Gallery offers a powerful outreach initiative to change their future. You can explore this life-changing program on our Heart Gallery page at heartgalleryhouston.org #nationaladoptionmonth #adoption #houston #houstontexas #houstontx #socialwork #texasyouth #youthadvocacy #harriscounty #harriscountytexas #houstoncommunity

UTHealth Houston + Harris County Resources for Children and Adults are teaming up on this National Injury Prevention Day! Let’s come together to focus on keeping our kids safe! Accidents are a leading cause of injury for children, but many of these injuries are preventable with a few simple steps. Whether they’re playing outside, in the car, or just moving around the house, safety should always come first. Here are some important tips for preventing injuries in children: At Home: - Childproof your home: Use safety gates, outlet covers, and secure heavy furniture to walls. - Store medications and cleaning products in locked cabinets. - Ensure smoke detectors are working and have a fire escape#familyresources - Secure Firearms In the Car: -Always use the appropriate car seat for your child's age, weight, and height. -Make sure the car seat is properly installed and securely fastened. -Never leave children unattended in a car, even for a few minutes. On the Playground: -Check that playground equipment is age-appropriate and free of sharp edges. -Ensure surfaces are made of soft materials like mulch or rubber, not hard concrete. - Always supervise playtime to watch for any potential falls or injuries. Drowning Prevention - Watch kids when they are near or in the water; - Secure gates to pools - Learn CPR Remember: Kids are naturally curious and energetic, so it's up to us to provide safe spaces for them to explore and grow. By taking proactive steps, we can help prevent injuries and ensure they have the freedom to enjoy their childhood safely! Let's make safety a priority today and every day! Phil Kunetka, longtime member of the Harris County Resources for Children and Adults Board, was recognized by Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones as he retires from the board. Mr. Kunetka has served on the board since his appointment in March 2009. During his tenure, Mr. Kunetka served as President, Vice President, and Secretary of the board, in addition to chairing many committees that improved outcomes for the clients we serve. He participated in Child Protection Day at the Texas Capitol, visiting delegates from Harris County to advocate for children. He and his family could often be seen volunteering at the Bear Houston to make sure that local children would have a memorable holiday season. Mr. Kunetka is a true champion for children and families. Thank you Phil Kunetka for all your hard work and commitment in and out of the board room-- all in the name of children and vulnerable adults in Harris County.
