The significance of venture studios for both our local and broader economy cannot be overstated. This past Friday, I had the privilege of meeting with Shegun Otulana at the HQ of Harmony Venture Labs (HVL) in their impressive new building in historic Birmingham. I can’t thank Shegun enough for allowing me to share our vision for AllSherpas and for sharing his incredible story about his entrepreneurial journey—from co-founding and selling a company to his plans to give back to Birmingham through HVL and other initiatives in and around the city. Although I was born, raised, and currently live in Atlanta, Georgia, my wife and her family have strong ties to Birmingham. It’s always inspiring to meet entrepreneurs who not only create amazing things but also give back to the community. (The visit also reminded me of my GameMix startup days at Idealab, where I gained valuable experience working under a similar model. ?? ) Shegun - thanks again for taking the time to catch up. We often seek validation in our ideas, workplace, or personal lives and sometimes overlook the importance of nurturing our communities and giving back. It’s inspiring to see this type of support network growing around Atlanta, Birmingham, LA, and elsewhere. I look forward to contributing to these networks and watching them thrive in the years to come.

We recently held our first-ever hackathon and it was a day full of learning, networking, and creativity! ?? First Place was awarded to Ajay Jakkanapally and Hari Merla for their winning "Crowd Easers" solution. ?? Second Place was given to Dan Thomason, Gina McClanahan, and River Rooks for collaborating on their "Praise for Perfect Paths" idea.
